I have been reading reviews on LCD's for some time now and have pretty much decided on either a Dell 1905FP or a Viewsonic VP191b. My question though, is what about the dead pixel thing? If i'm going to spend $500 or so on a monitor, I don't wan't a *single* dead/stuck pixel. So is there any online store that offers a warrenty like that? What is Dell's policy?

I can't get the Dell monitor in the store of course, but I can the viewsonic. So if I can't find anywhere that will offer a warrenty like I want, I'll head to Office Depot for the viewsonic and make them take it out of the box and test it. Yes it will cost a little more but I don't know what other options I have..

Dell will take it back no matter what, within 21 days.

Where did you find this about the Dell? I can't find anything like that on their website and their customer service hasn't responded.

Also what is the chance of getting dead/stuck pixels anymore? Good, bad? Just thinking about all the computers in the library at my univ, I can't think of one that i've noticed. A friend has a stuck green pixel on his 15", and it's annoying as heck, to me anyway.

You can say that you don't want a single stuck pixel, but it's not exactly difficult to get a monitor with one. I know my friend got an L90D+ from newegg with a stuck pixel and had a runaround with them and hyundai before newegg finally allowed him to rma and sent him a new one. So either get it from some place you know will take it back without too much hassel or have them pull it out of the box at an electronics store. If there was an electronic store nearby I probably would've gone there and tried it out. That'd be my best guess to being 100% sure you're getting a monitor with no dead/stuck pixels, but even then they can appear after a day or so of use so keep your receipt.

Dell is your best bet...they do have a 21 day, no questions asked, money back or RMA (and get a new one).

Also, a personaly suggestion, you said 500 for an LCD...if you got 500 I'd get a 2001FP or 2005FPW (probably the FPW)...the 19" is nothing more than a 17" with more space between the pixels

Wow, the 2005FPW is a really nice looking monitor. Good price too! (It's cheaper than the 2001FP). How does it stack up again the other monitors I listed in terms of ghosting and such? I don't really understand LCD specs and it's short on reviews, unlike the 2001FP. Also how do apps that are native to the 4:3 format handle it? The only games I really play are HL1 and HL2. Would they work out okay? I assume it takes a power brick like the 2001FP, dosen't matter but I'm curious. Oh yea, I dont think my video card supports 1680x1050, so how would that work out?

Thanks for the info on the warrenty. It looks like the 2000FPW is my choice now. No intergrated speakers and a decent design (wish it had a black base, but I can deal). Very nice monitor.

Your video card will support the resolution...just get the latest drivers, as for HL1 and HL2 both run great at the 16:10 ratio. Actualy in HL2 you'll have an advantage over other players because you'll see more left and right and same verticaly....let me find a thread I posted..

I've owned the 2005 and had no ghosting problems what so ever, I ended up trading it for a 2001 and getting a 2405FPW as well!

Normal apps run great...and if you do run into a problem, just run the 4:3 resolution and set the monitor to 1:1 aspect ratio and it will blackout pixels that arn't used, this way you don't get stretching and poor picture quality.

Well I see that I do have some widescreen resolutions but not the specific one that is mentioned by Dell, even with the newest drivers. I might be able to take care of that with some diffrent programs that let you make a custom resolution, but we'll see. If not I am overdue for a video card upgrade.

Anyway, it looks like a great monitor, thanks a load for the info!

Buy it from Newegg. They have good warranty and return policies as long as you follow them. I'm ordering the Hyundai B90A 19'' 8ms monitor tonight, and I've found the warranty policy for Newegg's products. I've ordered tons of stuff from Newegg, all of the parts for my computer in fact, and I've never had one single problem, except that I ordered the wrong CPU. I sent it back, and in about a week I got a new one, no questions asked.

Newegg Warranty Policy: http://www.newegg.com/CustomerService/StandardWarranty.asp

All you have to do when you return the product is get a RMA number ,which you can get by either emailing them or logging in to your account.

I buy most everything for newegg but I think I'm going with Dell on this one. I really like that widescreen and the price is good. As far as warrenty goes though, newegg states that they have a 8 dead/stuck pixel policy for a return/rma. I'm sure you could haggle and get past it, but i'm just saying.

The 2005FPW is a quite different monitor from the 1905FP and the V191b. The 2005FPW has a S-IPS panel, and the other two have MVA panels. X-Bit Labs has a good writeup comparing the various technologies:

Thanks for the website, very good info! After reading it I'm still going with the 2005FPW. It seems to have a good deal going for it.

Again, thanks for all the info, it's been a huge help for this LCD newbie.
