Its tought to escribe bu the image will shake a bit when its happining.. a few lines shake more than other spots..

Could this be the CRT dieing?

It a Gateway EV500 that ive had running for a minimum of 5 years.. could be more like 6 or even 7

Is there a way to eliminate other possibilitys?

Ive wiggled my graphics card (a 6600GT) and wiggled all the cables.. i shook the whole computer and shook the monitor.. couldent get to happen on purpose. Seems rather random.

Moitors do die, and this is the type of symptoms they display on the way out. You can always plug it into another system to see if it has anything to do with the computer, which i doubt.

I thinki figured it out...

i have 5 x 80mm fans and 2 x 120mm fans in my computer.. plus a fan on my 6600GT. I think it was cause my box was to close to my monitor.. cause i moved it and now its not flickering

Was this a possibility?

also there was a audio flickering noise that was sychronized with the screen flicker.. thats what made me think it was some kind of EMI...

possible?

The monitor was probably getting some EMI from the outlet its plugged into. Changing locations of the CRT or plugging it into a different location usually helps.

A dying monitor will flicker, but it will be of a different type. EMI tends to cause a wave or certain area on the CRT to flicker. A dying monitor will usually have the whole screen flicker on and off. This is usually caused by bad caps or a bad flyback. (Voltage stuff)
