View Full Version : Monitor fell down, maybe broken
So i was transporting my old crt from my dorm to home and it managed to tumble off the cart.
now, i try and put it as my secondary monitor and it comes on then "whizzes" for a second, then goes off then resumes the cycle again infintely.
it's an old compaq mv720...
what could be broken inside and would it be worth the trouble/$ to repair it?

Unless you are a trained electronics technician, you should write it off as a loss. The high voltages inside could be lethal and the cost to repair would be better spent buying something newer.
no, no way was i gonna open it up myself.
i'm guessing no way could a tech repair it for cheap?
time for a new monitor bud, if you open it up to check it out, PLEASE be careful, literally lethal like mentioned above^^ and you cant say we didnt warn ya, remember, its only one TAP of the side of your finger against a lil cap and KKKAABOOOOOOM just FYI :p

Could be a couple things, most likely the CRT is broken at the neck and/or the main circuit board is cracked. Not worth fixing, especially if the CRT is broken (replacing it would cost much more than a new monitor, and many independant techs I know won't even attempt the job).
