Okay I'm going to be buying an LCD sometime in the new future. I can't decide which of these two lcd's I want.

I like the viewsonic's 4msgtg response(5ms typical) over the Dell's 12ms.

But I really like the idea of having such a big widescreen monitor.

How is the gaming on the Dell monitor? Is there ghosting? I've read several reviews on it, but I want to see if anyone has some personal input.

I also have seen screenies of the widescreen gaming in action and I think it's pretty cool. But I also wonder if the performace/quality will be as good in the higher widescreen resolution and if it will be good enough period.

I'd take quality over quantity any day. You aren't used to a widescreen, so it would be a nice novelty, but you wouldn't actually *miss* it if you did not have it. However, if there was a degradation in performance and/or quality, you would certainly notice that and perhaps even regret your purchase.

There's a reason the Dell costs what it does. I like the monitor, but I'd still take the Viewsonic.

Coming from a guy that has a 2005FPW, I can tell you it's awesome. Extremely bright! So bright in fact that I had to turn it down. No ghosting and I'm using a pretty sick video card. A lot of games are starting to support 16:9 (widescreen), HL2 comes to mind, and they look stellar.

No ghosting on my 2005FPW, it looks great. CS:S in widescreen is pretty spiffy.

Another vote for the 2005FPW here. Everything is better on this screen, especially gaming. I've had several guys stop by my place and see games on it, and *none* of them has ever seen any ghosting. To be honest, I can sometimes see a tiny amount... but it is so miniscule, it's barely worth mentioning. I play CSS daily and ghosting is not an issue.

Watching movies on a 20" widescreen is great. Browsing, reading ebooks, whatever... you just have so much real estate, and the picture quality is unbelievable.

One drawback is that there is currently fairly lackluster support for widescreen resolutions in games. Fortunately some companies, such as Valve, are on the ball and support WS.

I just don't know if I can tolerate any ghosting whatsoever. I like the Viewsonic brand better as well. I also think the VX924 has a better look to it.

But I do love widescreen...

Just spend the $2k and get a widescreen Viewsonic. :)

If you have any doubts about the quality of the Dell 2005FPW, read this article here:

I'd be surprised if after reading that, you didn't immediately go buy the Dell :)

Does anyone know much about override technology? I heard that the VX924 uses this to acheive such low response times, giving more voltage to the pixels; does it affect the lifespan of the monitor?

I figure it could, but the VX924 also looks to have good ventilation.

The only thing I dont like is the 16:10 resolution. The only games ive seen support that are farcry/HL2/WoW.

i own a Dell 2005FPW... it is bright crisp and absolutly beautiful. however before you go for the 2005FPW, there are certain things you must know. the 12ms response time is from grey to grey. the philips LCD with in the dell minitor has 16ms actual response delay. now it doesn't mean you can't take advantage of the 12 ms grey to grey response rate. the dell minitor can handle 75hz refresh rate(not recommanded by manufacturer). however, depends on your video card, you may find pixel shifting. if you are using this monitor at 60hz refresh rate, you wont run into any problems. note dell has released a new driver for the 2005FPW, it has added support for running that monitor at 75hz. use that driver instead of the one come with installation cd.

Instead of making a new thread, I'll ask this in here. How does the 2005fpw handle 720p? *has xbox 360 in mind for the future.* Has anyone tried HD with it, how does it scale? Does the interface have good tools to get a good scale? Thanks.

Ended up buying the Dell 2005fpw. I saw where slickdeals.net listed that Dell had a 35% off coupon (offer expires 5-26-05) stackable with a $90 off coupon (offer expires 5-23-05) plus free shipping. So, I ordered a brand new Dell 2005fpw for $397 shipped to my door. Regular price is $749, so this was a sweet deal.

For some info on the various technologies.

batboy, if you got 45% off that 2005, how much could you have gotten the 2405 for?

If I manage to get that bad boy, I'll have no need for dual monitors LOL.
