Monitor keeps flickering when windows loads.

Hey guys,
I got an interesting problem. When I restart my freinds pc, right when windows starts to load the desktop, first, in the center left hand part of the screen the image is distorted in like a 3by 4 box then the screen begins to flicker on and off constantly. If I boot the pc into safe mode and remove the video drivers, the pc can boot into windows no problem. We did a fresh install of windows and the problem still occurs so id asume its something hardware related. What do you guys think the problem might be?

yea the graphics card seems to be dead...

Is this a known good card you just swapped into his rig or did an old card that started doing this?

If the former, make sure agp fast writes are turned off in the Bios (assuming agp).

naw it was a card that was always in the rig and it just started doing this one day for no reason... any other card works fine in it.

It is probable that the card is dying, it could be the slot itself though, the motherboard (when dying) will start to lose different slots [RAM, AGP, PCI, etc].

I have an old AMD mobo that does this, no matter what AGP card i use, it will flicker randomly when in use. I'm guessing its the slot, but it's also a pos old ASUS mobo. :p
