Many of these search engines are mediocre, but there are also many that are also excellent, so take a good look at all of them. I only included search engines that I thought would be helpful to someone, so any search engine that I found no merit in I did not include. Remember that if you find a Search Engine that you'd like added to the list, please say so, and I'll include it.

*If there are any broken links, please let me know.

Of course, the page will grow as time goes by, so check back often.

I consider all 3rd party toolbars to be adware/spyware. They are intrusive and some can be a pain in the A** to get rid of.

Some some are quite useful like Google Toolbar as a popup stopper for those using IE, which number in the few. The purpose of the toolbars bit was not to reccomend any toolbars, but just to say whats out there. Once and if I try any of them out or anyone else does I'll mark into the posts, which ones have spyware and perhaps delete those. With the search engines it somewhat easier to weed out the really bad ones though, so the toolbar category is more a work in progress then anything else, which is why I put a warning there.

That bad. Thats bad, really bad. Actually, I've never used software worse then Real One. Maybe I'll change the title: "Toolbars to Avoid at All Costs" Thanks for the tip elfiena. Something tells me most of these toolbars will wind up there.

aka all the search engines any of us care about. I sometimes wish there was more competition though. Academic research is of course a different story.
