I want to get a 17" lcd for around 300 and since i will be playin games i was wondering if u guys had ne advice for which lcd to get... i was looking at this one http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?page=3&CatId=167 im not sure if 16ms response time will be good enough ... but all te reviews say that there is no ghosting ... thanks in advance
I have read at PC World that viewsonic's 17 inch lcd with 8 ms response time is no better than other makes with a higher response time. Tom's Hardware just had a write up on some of the latest fast response LCD's and it seems they are better for games but worse for other applications like watching a movie. I have a Samsung with a 12 ms response time and you can game on it as lomg as it's not fast action movement. Everything goes blurry if I play a flight game. I think CRT's still rule in the gaming world.
Almost forgot.
Buidacomp,
Welcome to the Forum!
Hmmmm? I wonder if they said that to Ceasar? LOL

I got a Samsung 710n-2 (12 ms) off of Newegg for $229 shipped (after $30 MIR).
You have to hurry though b/c I think the MIR ends tomorrow.

Yes, that's the one I have. It's a very good monitor for the price. As long as you don't play flight sims kind of games it works great.

It has DVI, is $70 cheaper with NO MIR and they won't hassel you on returning it due to dead pixels!!!

I think Walmart is the absolute last place to buy an LCD monitor, and for that matter just about anything else, for reasons that are too numerous to mention. However, different strokes for different folks.

Like I said, they won't hassel you over dead pixels though. just take it back and say it's got dots all over the screen and they'll give you another one or your money back. I don't like Wally World either, but you can't beat that.

Thanks for the welcome ... the link isnt workin for me... but i was lookin at this BenQ and it seems like a pretty good deal for 270 after the rebate http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=24-014-074&depa=1 .. and if u could just tell me the model number of the one in the link I'll look it up ... thanks again
Since you're on a $300 budget I recommend this monitor: http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductdesc.asp?description=24-024-502&DEPA=0
even though it's not 17", but 19". I ordered one a few weeks ago and it works great. It's bright, sharp and the response time is good. I don't notice much (if any) ghosting in games at all.

You are right. In general big name retailers, Sears is another name that comes to mind, will allow you to return just about anything without questions. I bought a monitor at CostCo and it died 11 months later. I took it back without a receipt and they gave me a full refund with a smile no less. This is one advantage to getting things from a real store rather than off the net. (The other, of course, is shipping charges.)

I have an older BENQ fp767.I have seen some that are a little better then mine, but I really love it.I have never noticed any ghosting in games or benchmarks.I just found out that they look much better with Nvidia card then ATI's because of the digital vibrance option that ATI doesn't seem to have. That is likely the reason that some good lcd's look darker than others.
