LOL, you know you're teacher is a genius when he uses the school budget to get his students to compile a sweet gaming rig.
Do you want LCD or CRT?

The sony artisan CRT monitors blow away anything else (as far as normal monitors go) for image quality and resolution, I think they go at leat to 25" But they start at like $1600 for the 19" no idea how much the bigger ones are.

Sony F520.
Big, and great for gaming. Trinitron tubes are great.

Dude it's a virtual machine all on paper, no money is being spent. It's for my A+ Hardware class.

I've used displays similar to this, probably a bit inferior. They offered some pretty cool depth perception.
I would say go with a large 32" or bigger LCD TV. The resolutions are lower than LCD monitors so you don't have to worry about frame rates but you get the huge picture. The only possible problems are finding acceptable response times and having to sit probably 8 feet or so away.

I'd put the dell 2405fpw...not out yet, but 24" widescreen...1199 MSRP, will be 900 or so with coupons.
If you havn't gamed on a widescreen monitor before you can't bash a widescreen LCD...don't give me that CRT blah blah I can see...unless you've used a widescreen LCD

What about the new Phillips 'Fat Panels' The CRT's with a whole load of tubes are they out yet? cos they would blow any LCD's/Plasmas away for image quality and the prototypes weren't looking too thick.

geez, how would one of these cost? I tried looking on the site, maybe I didn't do a good enough job because I couldn't find a price.

I read an article about thin CRT monitors (about 8" or less deep) that used multiple tubes
and had very high image quality without being as massive as normal crts, they were calling them fat panels
