View Full Version : Text Goes Out of Focus on Expensive LCD

I have a Samsung 712n that I have had since Christmas. Just now I am noticing something about fine text. This first jumped out at me with the small text at the top of Internet Explorer. Whenever I move my mouse suddenly or sometimes just move it the text blurrs for a split second or lightens. Its the kind of thing that I notice some times and it drives me crazy.
I have about $300 invested in this. I love the color, but just don't know if this is something normal or not. Maybe b/c of the 12ms response time this is something you deal with or this a thing with LCD's? It could be that this unit is not functioning up to par. Please let me know what you think.
I guess another possibility is that my 9500pro is acting up. Its been flaky at times. I just don't know.

I've heard about this being a microsoft issue...see here:

Thank you very much. :)

Also, text can be messed up and have weird artifacts on an analog signal.

I thought that might be possible. Would it matter if I hooked up my analog to DVI inverter, b/c the monitor only has an analog line. I've heard DVI isn't important if you don't have a screen over 17". Maybe that isn't so?

Not to be rude, but what kind of "expensive" LCD costs $300 is 17" or less and has no DVI connector?
DVI is a must on LCDs for top quality. Unless you made this purchase awhile ago you should've gotten dvi on your LCD for that price.
actually dvi makes hardly no difference in quality to the naked eye at least on most lcds ive seen

Then you either don't have very good eyes for this kind of thing, or have seen some bad lcds. Analog looks awful on my 172t, 193p, and 2001fp. DVI is way better on all of them.

Same with my samsung 710 and dell 2001FP
I just got the Samsung 712n (12ms response)
Love it, and I use the Clear type from MS, makes a big difference...
Hint: The clear type also works very well for CRT screens also.....
well actually many sites if researched when i was lookin at lcds said that DVI's dont make that great of a difference unless you doing graphic designs at very high resolution otherwise you wont notice the difference
even in everyones favorite the hyundai l90d the dvi does not make an improvement over analog
I happened to stumble accross this post. (I usually hang out in the seti forum.) Thank you dracos for the tip about CRTs using clear type. The monitor I use is almost seven years old, it looks almost new now. Thanks a lot.

You will have to deal with this until lcd timings improve, the lcd cells just can keep up with quick changes.
