How long can a LCD screen last, and when they start wearing out, what features start to fail first?
Believe the lamps that backlight the screen last 10,000-20,000 hours. That's an average of 1.7 years of CONTINUOUS use. Of course most people don't leave their monitors on while away for more than 20 minutes (standby saves power and prolongs LCD life). Mileage will vary, but I'm guessing a good 5 years of moderate use.

LCD's use a flurescent (sp?) backlight. They will last a long time if you take care of it.

I believe the backlight is replaceable as well for probably under 50 bucks I'd imagine.
