Not with dead pixels and monitor defects lots of people are talking about, but I just finished playing counterstrike source on it for 30 mins and I am feeling dizzy. I am running it at native 1600x1200 on DVI connection too. This sucks, I was so looking forward to trying this monitor when I bought it several days ago. I guess I'm just spoiled from the amazing image of my Viewsonic P90F CRT.

Pok - damn.. I hate seeing posts like this. I am in the same boat.... I game on a P95F+B (Viewsonic) monitor and absolutely love it. I am building a new system soon and really wanted to go w/ the Dell 2005FPW monitor but am worried that I will regret going from CRT to LCD. Can you be a little more specific... what exactly is wrong w/ the image quality (particularly w/ respect to the P90F)?

I notice minor ghosting when playing the game. For something like counterstrike where your eyes are glued to the screen for 30 minutes straight, it just makes me dizzy and I had to stop. I usually can play 2+ hours on my CRT without any problems. This is my first LCD, so I'm not used to LCDs I guess. I'm definatly sticking with my trusting 60+ pound, desk hogging, 140W power hungry, CRT for gaming. :)

I just finished watching dvd on it (Spiderman 2 :) ), for movies it don't seem that bad.

I got the 2001FP this monday and so far love it. Been playing Wow, SC PT, and NSF UG2 all at 1600 x 1200. Using the DVI cable on my 9800pro with no ghosting of any kind.

Hmm, weird that some people notice ghosting and others dont.

WK - Have you gamed on a good CRT monitor before? If so, did you notice anything significant between the CRT and the LCD you have now?

I went from a Samsung SyncMaster 955DF. Max res 1600 x 1200, refresh of 70MHz, pixel pitch of .24. When I hooked up the 2001FP it was like night and day, the colors looked so much better images are sharper.

i'm a little dissapointed, too, with my lcd purchase (L90D+). it's like the monitor is causing lag and it makes me dizzy too. it's even visible when just moving the mouse around in a menu...kind of like the lag from an older wireless mouse.

it has a beautiful picture, but it's unplayable in games b/c of the lag.

You're not running the game at the native resolution, and that "lag" is the monitor interpolating the resolution you have it set to (that isn't native). The interpolation is done by the monitor with a loss in response time while the interpolation occurs. I believe 1280x1024 is native for that monitor.

I'm not sure if that Dell is a 16ms or lower panel. I suspect it's not. 25ms doesn't seem fast enough for people going straight from CRT to LCD (while it looks/works fine for me when gaming). Most first time gaming CRT owners need 16ms or lower response times, otherwise people complain about getting dizzy and headaches.

I guess the only way to find out is to try it. Dell has an excellent return policy so I can always switch back to CRT if i'm not "completely satisfied."

The native res is 1600 x 1200 and it is a 16ms LCD.

running at non native does make the lag more apparant, but it's still there in the native res. mine has the new samsung 8ms panel and i get dizzy when playing. i'm going to try it for a few more days (switching back and forth between the crt and lcd) and if it's still not making me happy, it'll show up on the sale forum.

as stated in another thread....did you try other drivers?
I tested Doom3 at both 1024x768 and 1280x1024 with HIGH settings and vsync turned on...NO LAG

you may need a reinstall like you said, but this still seems to be a driver problem.
what drivers are you using now?

For the LD90+? Sorry, I wasn't clear which monitor I was talking about - first section was the LD90+, and second was the Dell2005FP.

16ms should be enough to not notice any lag, unless they're 16ms 'claim' is false.

i installed new drivers, this morning (using driver cleaner and such), and i'm still feeling the lag. sad thing is, my crt just died, so i had to steal the woman's 17"...and that thing is tiny!

the only way i can play at native with vsync is if i disable shadows, otherwise, i wind up with 30 fps in certain areas and during some fire fights. keep in mind, i only play tourney, so it's not like i have 5 rox flying at once, but my comp just doesn't have the umph to run the game like the monitor needs it.

i can't imagine i'm the only one that feels the lag. try playing d3 for an hour, then switching back to a crt. the movement is much more crisp on the crt while the lcd gives a floaty feel. basically, it's just hard getting used to the monitor being out of sync with the keyboard and mouse.

Anyone know dell's return policy? Can I return it because I am not satisfied?

You have 21 days to return the monitor to Dell for any reason.

Adrayic
02-13-05, 08:48 PM
Pok - yeah, i believe its 21 days also. Dell is really good about that (in my experience)... they don't even question you if you tell them you arn't satisfied with the product (at least thats the case in Canada)

He was talking about the Dell 2001FP. The 2001FP uses an S-IPS 16ms panel. Some people notice ghosting on it and others dont.

I'm surprised that anyone would notice much lag on the L90D+ though because if they notice it on it i seriously doubt they would be content with any other LCD currently available considering the Samsung 8ms panel looks to be the fastest panel on the market.
