I've wondered this too, my Gateway laptop was very "floppy", my Sony has held up very well though. I think I looked into it at one time and it looked pretty involved for most laptops, can't remember though.

I have a gateway. I pulled the display apart and tightened the screws... That helped, but now it's actually the hinges. I don't know how to tighten them.
I think really, apart from tightening screws, the only thing you can do is replace the hinges. If it's not the screws, then take a sift thru eBAY, using your laptop model number and "hinges" for the search parameters. "Laptop Parts and Accessories" usually runs about 40 to 50 thousand listings....

One of them has gotta be a set of hinges for your lappy.... ;)
BTW....check the "Search Title and Description" box, too... ;)
I've seen a ton of sets of them for my lappy (a Presario 1700)....they range anywhere from $5 a piece (deal!) to $50 for a set, + $12 or so shipping (ripoff).
Good luck! :)
