sony 17' LCD with resolution at 1280
I just ordered the Dell 2005fpw 20.1" it shipped out this morning and will delivered to my house on Monday.
It will be the first LCD in my main rig. I have one other at my office the BenQ 17" 16ms, although it does not ghost it has some pretty bogus white & black issues....its to white when in outdoor sceens and to dark indoors.
The Dell 2005fpw (http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/ProductDetail.aspx?TabPage=producthighlights&sku=320-4111&category_id=4009&c=us&l=en&cs=19) has a 12ms response time so i'm looking forward to playing lots of HL2 and other games on it. I'll let you know how it turns out. I am very picky when it comes to graphics I.Q. and issues.

Please, please post a review/first impressions. I really need a new monitor upgrade (from a 15" LCD) and I was thinking that this would be the perfect monitor for a LCD gamer like me although I wasn't sure since I haven't seen many reviews.
From the stats I've read, the monitor Krag listed is the best bang for your buck 19/20 incher. That's two votes for the 2005fpw now.

You got it bro! I had planned on doing that anyways. I will include pics aswell. I will do a side by side comparison for overall size with my ji-lascious Nokia 21" tube monster, which only has a 19.5" diagonal view.

I was thinking of getting one of those Dell 20" screens too, but I'm more than happy with my Samsung 17" TFT. It is one of the fastest 25ms refresh-time TFTs (doesn't give any ghosting) but does have some minor tearing though.
Also, another problem is support: you'd have to run a 20" screen at like 1600*1200 resolutions, and my 9800 Pro certainly couldn't run HL2 that high with max. settings. It can just about run it smoothly at 1280*1024 with max. settings.
So, altogether, while a 20" LCD might be a great luxury to have - a 17" is far more practical, and far cheaper.

Got nearly the same model as you just without the DVI. Im regreating not giving my parents info on getting the DVI but still looks/runs good without it. As long as you can get a 16ms refresh rate (make sure you double check they sometimes post faster results then they really are).

How much did you pay?
For the 2005fpw, I got it for $644...would have been $5999 if it weren't for taxes. I hardly ever pay taxes on my internet purchases. The only times I do is when the item is located witinh my home state of WA. But it taking 5 buisness days to get to me so I can't figure out why I'mm getting ripped for taxes.

That's what I would have thought too (I only discovered things like refresh rate after I bought the TFT) but - aside from minor tearing, which I don't mind at all - there's no ghosting! It's pretty amazing considering its response time.

Damn thats a hell of a price for that monitor. Thinkin about getting one of those if I can get some OT in this coming 2 months, perfect gift for me :)
Do you guys think these monitors will drop a lot in price after the holidays?
If 5ms are widely released soon, yes. Otherwise, no because there is no factor necessitating or spurring a sale or worldwide LCD price drop to happen.
What is "better" for gaming, watching DVDs, and general use a 20 " LCD or two 17"?
What kind of games do you play? I heard the ms flight simulator supports dual monitors but haven't seen it personally.
I mean generally in gaming, shooters, RPG and the like. I'm debating wheter to get a 20" or dual 17"s since they will roughly cost the same.
I would get a 20". It will be a lot easier to see everything at 1280x1024

Well did you get it yet?
What do you think?
How is the text on the LCD clear not blurry?
Its awesome! It blows my 21" Nokia 445 pro away! The text on word doc or web surfing is clear & crisp. I wasn't expecting this much of a difference, games even look better and play better, the I.Q. is definately "richer." That might be due to fact that I am using the DVI cable, there is zero ghosting! I am very pleased with this purchase....I highly recommend it!
i would like to get that benq 8ms monitor, but i cant find it anywhere for sale

Actually it's already available here in Finland. Bought one and I'm pretty happy with it but then again I'm not very critical when it comes to monitors. No dead pixels, no ghosting, even movies look good. After saying this there will probably be dozen replies stating there's huge ghosting in every tft available but whatever, I haven't noticed any and nor have my friends so that's good enough for me.

Well the suggested retail price is 499 euros. I bought this for 484 euros and the price seems to be 450-460 euros in Germany. Usually the prices are pretty much 1:1 compared to US dollars/prices there (ie. 500 euros = 500 dollars no matter what the rate of exchange is) so that 700 bucks seems quite a lot to me.

one with a lower response time. however also make sure you buy one that your video card can run at it's native resolution. when not at their native resolution the images get blurred.
