Anyone know where I could find places to safely dispose of CRT monitors? Since environmental budgets were cut back the places that used to take them no longer do. Even then we had a 12oz bottle of mercury, paint buckets, 50 pound lead brick and a few monitors before they would come. Yeah we enheirited alot of crap from my grandfather after he died.
Reason I ask is I will never hear the end of it from my mother if they arnt disposed of properly.

If the CRT works, take it to a local school, they would prolly take it for free, or maybe at the salvation army... If it doesnt work, well I dunno then... Did you ask your garbage company? Some have special pick up dates for recycleing certain things like old tvs and electronics...

Our garbage man has told us they will NOT take TVs, Monitors or a whole list of other things because it requires special processing after the fact. That in itself is the problem. No one around here wants to process that stuff anymore!
Unfortunitly they dont work or else I would donate them.
I have a 17" from a '95 P133 computer, 15" I got somewhere, a few other various dead tvs and monitors that we cant get rid of. One small tv with only 13 channels in it. It was used with a cable box for years without issues.

Bring it to your local dump. Here in CT, downtown their is a local recycling center and a dump across the street. Mind you, i do not live in a industrial or run down city. I am sure there is one in a lot of places. Check Penn. for recycling centers and/or city dump's. But be prepared to bring nose plugs. It smells like horrible crap.

I just smashed mine up with a cinderblock in the trash. Our trash man are very picky about the trash cans, if the lid isnt closed, they wont pick up the trash, and since the can was already full with a old tv, I jsut started throwing the cinderblock in the trash to smach everything down....plus it was fun too, but probally not good on the enviroment. hehe
