View Full Version : $710 dollar apple 23" cinema display?! This can't be right

I was browsing through hardforum.com because Voltron gave me a link there telling me that there was ALOT of discussion on 23" widescreen displays going on over there. After I clicked on it, sure enough there was post after post of questions and answers related to large LCD displays. I was happily browsing through the forums reading information about the different LCD 23" widescreen monitors when I found this link

http://www.digiline-electronics.com/sales.php@PID=4

Someone posted it asking if it was for real. I was wandering what they where talking about so I clicked the link and what came up was unbelievable. I was sure it was a scam, so I browsed down to see if anyone answered and only one person answered saying it was for real and that he wired his money via western union just a little while ago. My eyes enjoyed reading that but there were no more post commenting on it. I can’t believe just one person vouching for that site, especially at the prices I saw, so I decided to check with the people at the OC forums. So does anyone know anything at all about this company, or its website?

Digiline Electronics, Inc. is Lithuanian and Belarus legal entity, was founded in 2000

I wouldn't trust it at all. There have been too many computer software scams involving sellers from this region and this seems way too good to be true. Also, if the person you're thinking of posted on [H], I'm pretty sure that he was being sarcastic.

yea, had a guy at work tell me he found a way for us to save money on win2k3, sent me a link sellin it for 60, in the FAQ it blantantly said it was eastern europe and we couldn't register it ^_^

If it's too good to be true, it probably is. Furthermore, there's a very simple way to discern if a company is legitimate:

US and Canada: Better Business Bureau (http://www.bbb.org)

If anyone knows of similar organizations for the UK and EU, please feel free to chime in.

They take Paypal as well. I personally feel that this is a scam on some companies, not the customer. Just me, though.

Seems to good to be true...

It's not on resellerratings.com...
And our friends from Denmark are also skeptical...

Where is Lithuania anyways??? It seems so far away... getting tech support/RMA's would probably REALLY suck too!

Checked BBB, didn't find the company, but it is in another country, so I'm sure that has something to do with it :D I e-mailed them asking about there prices. When (and if) I get a responce I will post it here. Until then, if anyone has any other information please share, or perhaps if someone here is rich and doesn't care about losing 710 dollars they could "test" that site for us  j/k

Heh, since most of that stuff is made in China it wouldn't surprise me if it came out of the back door of the factory via camel train to Lithuania. Gut feeling from here is, that you'll get the goods, but the roads are awful rough over that end of the world, anything delicate might have issues, and don't plan on RMAing.

tom10167

We should set up a paypal account and everyone throws in one dollar and then we paypal it to them and see what happens. Worst that happens is that I lose a buck.(You lose a buck, too.) Best thing that happens is we have an LCD that we can give to the staff.

Warranty should always be covered by the manufacture, as long as you buy it in retail box and everything. Or at least that's what I would think. Besides RMAing is a nightmare anyway, just the though of having to WAIT makes me cringe :-/

yeah you would think that. But this is such a good deal that we WANT to believe it is real, so we hold on to any hope possible. As for me, I am impatient, and am pretty sure that is not real. So I will be ordering the 23" sony from newegg tonight. It should get shipped tommorow, and be at my house tuesday. I know it is 5 lbs heavier then the Apple display, but they use the same screen made by LG I think, and the sony has 2 vga inputs, which I will need untill I get my Geforce 6800 GT with dual DVI outs. My wallet will be in recovery for a while though lol

Is this the one you got?

About the Apple LCD. I remember someone telling me that depending on the video card, you may not be able to see the BIOS during bootup. The screen just displays utter blackness and flickers a little bit as if changing resolutions. The screen's got a pinkish tinge to it that's noticeable on grayish colors. Doesn't seem to affect only individual units as many many people have reported this. And also, he can actually feel heat emanating off his LCD when using moderately high brightness, which annoyed him. He had to turn the brightnes down pretty low to reduce this effect, so the image would be dim.

Sorry guys, no funky donations that lead to a single purchase on the display. We cannot allow that here. (As it is a variation of sorts on a "group buy" the staff did look at this situation, but it's just not something we can do.) I'd appreciate further discussion on donations to attempt a purchase be dropped.

At the same time, we can't stop any one of you from attempting a purchase -- I personally wouldn't trust my hard-earned money at this place, but if you're so daring please do share your experiences, good or bad. (Unfortunately my cynicism leads me to beleive the result will be the latter.)

Two for himself, and two for his parents. And he didn't even mention a financial blow of any sort. Now HE is rich :( (or possibly just stupid lol)

Aside from the generosity I've seen on these forums, and a few other nonprofit sites, the most 99% of people will donate on the Internet is their opinion. (Which half the time isn't worth anything.)

RESPONSE:

"Hello,

According your hesitation in our purchasing system, i understand you it's
really pertinent question, why is the merchandise so "cheap?" What are its
origins? We are cooperating with the customs so we sell confiscated goods.
In Lithuania there are many advantages in the area of electronics, you can
enjoy a wide range of options such as zones where you can acquire products
below the original price table of neighboring countries.

Our company trading already almost 2 years, we're legal association with the
fixed address, open bank account of the Commercial type and also state
license, earlier we worked only with neighbouring countries Germany, Poland,
Latvia and France, but now we provide worldwide deals, we have many constant
buyers all over the world. All our production is brand new and box packed,
carry all
trade marks and international warranty, includes all original additional
factory accessories and also complete license package of the software.
Actually we are engaged with wholesale trade as our margin on the goods not
so large, but we conduct retail trade also, because the initial bargains
pass in some mistrust to ours purchasing system. Further we have the basic
profit only at the expense of the large orders.

Also we have convenient return policy, if the product will be damaged,
actually we can give you refund or just send another product of the ordered
model under condition of you'll send the damaged product back to us ( the
expenses for departure of the injured product will be returned as the
discount on the subsequent orders), but i can assure, that we had no
problems
of this character, because the products will be packed in special packaging
to prevent possible damages during travel.

If there is anything else I can help you with please let me know.

ha

It is a scam... therefore being an illegal operation.

It is obvius that their server is hacked....

Why do you think the RARP resolves differently than the ARP. Secondly, why has the HTTPD been "debadged" and the DNS entries have been blocked from its native vHost and only allowed to digiline-electronics.com. Neolocation already knows that its hacked, but they are waiting on the owners for a response and permission to remove the site.

Yup, same here as well. Interesting, but as others have stated I could probably see it in "Internet Exploder". I am just not willing to open all those security holes that Mico$oft so kindly installed.

As to the topic at hand, I wouldn't touch this with the proverbial 40 Ft pole. As someone stated "sounds so good we want to believe it..." Well that's the real issue isn't it? Sure I want such a sweet display, sure I am attracted to such a low price, but the BullSheet meter in my head is screaming away "No, No, NO!"
I have learned that the BS meter is almost NEVER wrong, so for the nube here that says "sounds good, think I'll go for it" (Sam, was it?) , I suggest you listen to the alarms!

Just recieved this monitor 5hours ago, yes its big yes its very well constructed and the alu case is very nice, 1620x1200 16ms, but im sending it back!

Totally gutted, I spent £1549uk on the monitor of my dreams way too much hard earned if the truth be known, thinking at last a large lcd get all the benifits of small foot print, vivid colour, 16ms and a native of 1920x1600 low power consumption etc not that we are too arsed about the last point.

sod it words defeat me, i cant believe ive spent so much and am so disapointed....................................... ...

straight out the box you think this is one cool display but at the end of the day it doesnt cut it, tried it out with far cry running a gainward 6800u, amd 64 3700 with 1mb cache, asus mobo and a gig of corsair, yes far cry looked amazing in wide at 1620x1200 with everything maxed STANDING STILL, but start giving it some and the ghosting is TOTALLY HEART BREAKING!

same goes for fast paced dvds, got the bourne supremacy the other day thought id give it a go (centropy perfect 5.1 etc) and the ghosting i am noticeing in that is bad too, im a fussy person, but bloodyhell 1500quid should be better!

well the grass is always greener on the other side, i thought id flex the c.card to breaking point to see how green that grass was and its not that green.

so if you have not already guessed im returning the apple, and going back to CRT.

quick question, to try and make this turn out good in the end, what do you think is the best CRT out there 21" and above? (sony and MISTUBISHI probs but give me some models and feedback money no object as im just about to get a large refund)

Rob first time poster cant belive i am this gutted the day a 23" dream lands on my door step.

if your not a gamer, not likely if your on this forum, top monitor for web browsing, imaging etc, even tho to add to the disgust of the spend, after one hour of use my monitor developed uneven backlighting problems in the top right region, and a very nice bright green stuck dead centre.

200quid id keep it, 1500quid u can kiss my ass.

havent read the full thread, but just incase i havent put you off already, not many pc based gfx cards are showing the bios or post screens either, the gainward did btw only on the bottom dvi connector nearest the mobo.

and if non of my sentences are too good, its cas im on the old Jack Daniels now, cas im sooooo ****ed off.

another thing to point out is the ghosting on this is far worse that lg 16ms lcd i own, i wanted the apple to push more pixels from the ultra, dont know what the score is a 16ms pannel should be a 16ms pannel right? u should not get any slowdown going from 17" to 23".

robz1k that really stinks man, is there anyway you can return the monitor and get your money back? I would be heartbroken to spend that much money on a monitor and not be in love with it.

Well keeping with the original point to this thread looks like digi-line has finally been shut down. Too bad really the dream was nice while it lasted :p.
