I'm currently running 1280x1024 on a 16" viewable CRT...if I went to a 20" LCD and ran 1600x1200, would the images physicaly be the same size on both but the 20" would have more space? (because 16"/1280 is .0125, and 20"/1600 is .0125 also)
I'm not really certain how things scale that's why I'm asking

A 20" LCD is 1.25 times bigger than a 16" LCD, diagonally. Thus at the same resolution I would imagine images would be ~1.25 times bigger. Thus you would want to use a resolution 1.25 times bigger (approx).

1.25x1280 = 1600
1.25x1024 = 1280

So your images would be roughly the same size, yes.
