I am currently looking to do a rebuild and of course I am looking at Abit again. I have had wonderful luck with them in the past.

Anyway the ic7 max3 did peak my interest i am looking at the lga775 for future.

Anyone with fist hand work with this?

My only hesitation is the lack of support for the idex at the moment

I would recommend Asus P5P800 (LGA with 865 -chipset) and some fast BH-5 ram sticks. Since DDR2 doesn't give any good advantage because it has so lousy latencies, and PCI-E graphic cards are bit too expensive. And of course if you can afford, P4 LGA 560 CPU. These babies goes past 4GHz easily. Usually they don't get any better FSB's on 915/925 boards, because of PCI-E. Won't work right when FSB is +262MHz :(

If you want to future proof a new system, then going with a LGA775 is not a bad idea. The PCI-E vid cards are indeed a little more expensive, but they are starting to show up more and more, so it won't be long before competition drops prices down to AGP levels. The DDR2 RAM can already be found in speeds faster than regular DDR RAM, but Zebbo is right that there isn't a big difference right now. But, by early next year though, I think DDR2 will rule. I'm starting to plan my new LGA775 system. I should have it together by the end of the month.

The board is reaklly good but if you dont want DDR2 go with the AG8 in tests it is only 1% slower with normal DDR ram with a ATI graphics card and a good CPU 3/3.2 you should get to 4GHZ.

Basicly i am hopeing to build this comp over the next few months. This one still running above my needs but wont hold up next year.

as for PCI-e gcards yes they arent common and more expensive, but we have to face it in a year they will be everywhere, and heck if im going to plop down 600 on the 6800 i might as well get the PCI-x

As for DDR2 yes there is just as good ddr1 now but again will this the case next year?

I have little doubt that most new boards released will fully support both ddr2 and pci-x which will both increase the demand for these hense more being manufactured = more competition and lower prices.

But i dont know, heck i might be better off waiting on a 2005 pci-x board :)

Anyway i have yet to order my new case or even thought about breaking out the dremel to mod :)

thanks for thoughts you have def given me things to think about
