Okay, in my sig you can see how far I've gotten with my Athlon, but I have room to build another computer. I had 3 computers in total (the one in my sig, another athlon 2600barton, and a pentium4 1.6ghz). I ended up selling the other two, and only have the one in my sig.

It turns out that I have an 80gig and 120gig hdd, antec case, PSU, 2x256 pc3500 RAM, CD-rom, floppy, dvd burner, vid card, sound card, NICs... all this stuff laying around. All I needed was a mobo and CPU to build myself another computer. I decided to go INTEL this time so that I can rip DVDs with it (supposedly better for rendering). My cousin had an extra motherboard. He gave me his Gigabyte GA-8SR533. I wanted to know if I can OC with this board, and also which CPU to get (2.26p4 533fsb, 2.4A, or 2.4B).

Please, give me some advice. I heard some of the 2.26s and the 2.4As can OC to about 3.0ghz with stock HSF. I need to know which CPU to buy, and also if this motherboard will be able to pull some strings for me for a nice OC. Thanks a bunch!

The GA-8KNXP was the worst OCing motherboard I ever owned. I have a 2.4C that I run 24/7 at 270MHz fsb in an IS7, but the Giga board could only do 225 fsb. I can max this chip out at 290. SO you can see, the Giga board fell a little more than short of being a good OCer. I don't know much about the board you have, but I know GIgabyte is not known for good OCing boards. IF you can sell it and get something better, don't hesitate. Then you could look to a 800MHz fsb chip that aren't much more money than an a or b chip and get better performance. A 2.4 or 2.8C would be the king of OCing.

Awww =(

I was looking to save money on a board. This board won't be able to sell for more than 25 bucks. I doubt it'll go more than that. Anyways, do you think I could stick a 2.8C pentium that I have for a customer into this board, just to see if the board is in working condition? I know the 2.8C is 800fsb, but could i still fire it up in this board? (Wouldn't it just run 533fsb anyways, right?)

mmmmm, in fact i will post the contrary opinion. GA-8KNXP is one of the best motherboards for overclocking that i have. i have 250fsb stable and i can go more, if only i have a better cooling.
the first bios of these board weren too "cooperative" whit the Oc, but the newest versions have pulled away this problem.

i dont know if your mb is good or bad, you will have to try it on your own. i saw in gigabyte.com.tw that your mb support the fsb changeable settings, so try from here, going slowly
