flatpannel or lcd

I got about $450 to spend on a monitor so should I get a great flatpannel or a smaller lcd... I'm leading toward a lcd but for that amount i can only get like a 17inch so can someone recomend a good lcd for my price range..... I got a 15inch Gateway ev500 now. It ok I guess.

I have the gateway ev500 now and I am leaning towrds the Samsung 172x and the samsung 710t lcd screens

ya I guess i should reword that i ment a flat crt monitor or a lcd monitor..... sorry for that...
