I have a suggestion to everybody not to buy the samsung 997df crt monitor. I have had two of them and All I get is problems. I get white hazing and ghosting on a black backround with white object such as text, icon, pointer. I also get blurry pictures and a chain link image on high resolutions

I called samsung and talked to a few of there Egineers and said there must have been one massivly bad batch. I have been talking to 13 others on this form asking me about this monito and have others who have purchased it and have had the same problems. I am now stuck becouse Circuit city will not give me a refund without me paying a 15% restocking fee. I dont know what to do and I am going to fight with them on saterday. So if you have any suggestions please give them to me to help me out, if possible I think this should be made a sticky. Alot of people at buying defective monitors and samsung wont take charge of this.

if you have any good news please tell me.

tHIS IS A OLD POST OF MINE WITH SOME PROBLEMS

What about exchanging it with a different brand monitor will they do that for you. I'm not sure what they carry but they should have something.

Well go for a new one (#3) and that will give you more fire power to argue with them or Samsung.

So their refund only works if you get the same monitor that you turned in? How dumb is that??

Its true, she will bring anybody down. Like one timer I bought the game metroid prime from circuity city and this was oen of my christmas presents and when i opened it it had a cut up aol cd to fit the size of the gamecube disc/ she went there and they had to fight saying that she did it and stuff, but then she told me to go get another one and we just walked out of the store with another one

yup... it puts Circuit City on par with CompUSA in my opinion. Here's a thread I started recently when I learned of their restocking fees.

http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=302613

Circuit City has been having all sorts of problems the past few years. This policy is certainly not going to endear them to customers. What happened to their "We're with you!" jingle and the hassle free return policy?!?!?

There's also a thing called "Warranty of Merchantability". If they are trying to push defective monitors on you, you could drag their ass to small claims court and get your money that way. Warranty of merchantability is a legally implied warranty that goods should be fit for ordinary use. If you can't use those monitors as a monitor during ordinary use, they shouldn't be selling them.

I don't think arguing legal interpretations is going to get you what you want, but I bet your Mom will!!! :D

G'luck!

I purchased a Samsung 997df from Best Buy yesterday to replace a 3 year old Sony 19inch monitor thats failed, the picture on the 997 is excellent, colors are amazing and its sharp too. I guess you got unlucky with the batch Circuit city had in stock.
Oh and on the 15% restocking fee, thats why I only use Bestbuy, I got burned by Circuitcity a while ago when returning a logitech mouse.

Simple.

Box up old monitor.

Buy new Syncmaster 997DF.

Return old monitor with new receipt. Nothing they can do about it.

I've heard this many times before concerning Dynaflat screens. They usually are very good, or very bad. I'm surprised that your problem concerns white hazing, as usually the problem involves a geometry problem at the top of the screen that is uncorrectable. I'm glad that you got out of the restocking fee. Hopefully your next monitor doesn't have that problem.

So what's the best monitor for graphic and programming?

You think the 997DF (well functioning :) ) is good for this purpose or I must go to Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 930SB???
:bang head:

AnandTech say Diamondtron is more "clear" than Dynaflat... but I mainly interested in text readability.

Thanks!

I have the diamond pro 930sb, go for it. Excellent monitor.

However, this thread is not for you to find a new monitor, this thread is for recommendations to help this guy out with his monitor issues at Circuit City.

Easy, there miomao.

IMHO, the best monitor for graphics/programming is 2! One LCD and one CRT with an extended desktop. It's essentially like having a 34" screen, except you have the ability to exploit the strenghts of both monitor types. Put all of your tools/pallets/code view on one monitor and the images on the other. I'm running a SyncMaster 955DF together with an LG Flatron 782LE. They're about 3 years old and still just as nice as the day I bought them. The only gripe I have is the refresh rate on the 955DF is a bit low (75mhz) at 1280 x 1024.

The best CRT? Find all of the monitors in the price range you can afford at a vendor you like who has a good rep. Look at their refresh rates, resolution and dot pitch then read user reviews at epinions and forums such as these. When reading reviews, separate the whiners from those with legitamate complaints and the fanboys from those with clear positive reviews and you're on your way.

Thanks very much Doc_Skurlock and hafa... :)

I know this thread is for "not buy the 997df" but... I'm italian and so I'm accustomed to elude the rules... :D

I just have an Eizo L367 so is a very good idea to make a dual-monitor configuration.
Also if selling the L367 I can make 250-300$ I think...

Greetings from Italy
