Hey guys I just got a new monitor earlier today a Samsung SyncMaster 997DF 19". This is my first 19" monitor and a few things have been bugging me about it. First of all everything in the taskbar looks fuzzy (mostly the text) and everything else on the monitor looks great. The second thing is when i put it in any resoulution over 1024x768 the monitor gets a starnge pattern on the right and left side it looks like ||||||||||| that pattern goes from the top to the bottom and fades out about 2-3 inches from the sides. The pattern gets more noticeable at higher resolutions and when looking at something that is light colored.
Has anyone ever seen something like this before? Is the monitor bad or is that just how these monitors are? I prolly would have taken it back already but the store i got it from is about an hour away and i just wanted to check around the net first. TIA
Is this an lcd or crt? I have the Samsung 192N lcd monitor and it is the very best I've ever had/seen; regardless of which kind it is, you should not be having the problems you describe; take it back!

Mine is perfect. I'm running at 1600 X 1200 right now and any text in my task bar is clear
as day. I dont know how many people on this board own this CRT but between you and Vinny77 so far have had problems with it. Take it back and get a new one.
I got one of these last week... I praised it for a little while but now I am just ****ed off at the quality of this antiglare coating. It doesn't do anything besides double the amount of glare and refract all bright images back onto the screen. Worse yet. I got it from Circuit City, so I do not feel like I am going to be able to return so I am forced to just suck it up and live with this crap.
Does Best Buy have the same restocking fees, I am suddenly feeling like I should have bought it from there. This really is stupid it makes all of my backgrounds look like crap. I haven't been able to play games, as I am waiting for my videocard. I am quite disappointed in this monitor now.
I've seen something like that before on an old KDS 17" monitor. My friend ended up tossing it and getting a used 21" Trinitron for like $200.

Nope I didn't get charged anything when i returned mine. I took mine back the day after i got it.
I had the guy at best buy open up another 997DF and it had the same problem with the pattern at any res over 1024x768. And i also had him open a 955DF and it also had the same problem. (He was getting a bit ticked at this point :D ) I ended up getting an NEC LCD1765 a very nice LCD with a 16ms response time. It was about twice as expensive tho but i think it is worth it. The only annoying thing about this monitor is that it has a protective glass shield over the lcd display and it is very very reflective, if i look at something dark (like this forum( i can see myself in the monitor. Other then that it is great. :attn:
