What Is Better: 17" LCD Or 21" CRT?

At the moment my computer has a Samsung SyncMaster 172v TFT Flatscreen. At £290 it was not cheap but it was worth it! I no longer have to put up with the bulkiness or the high temperatures of CRTs!

The thing is I discovered a deal from a reputable trader at a computer fare. He is selling refurbished (but in very good quality) 21" CRTs For £50! Is it worth getting one and putting it into dual monitor mode or something alike? Incidentally what would you rate as being better: A 17" TFT or a 21" CRT? I personally prefer the TFT but would buy a 21" CRT as a second computer screen.

(Note that because of the thinner screen borders a 17" TFT often has the same viewable size as a 19" CRT.).

I personanly like the LCds, being a college kid, but if you can sarcifice the room on your desk go for the dual monitors if it is that cheap.

Bigger is better for us old guys. But, if you are a gamer, LCD may not be responsive enough to suite you. You need to get down around 20 ms refresh on an LCD to be a good gaming monitor and you have to pay for it.

Go with dual. The CRT could be your gaming screen and the LCD could be for word processing, etc.

I dont know how much 50 pnds is in american dollars, but that sounds like a good deal just to keep around as a dual moniter?

50lbs is 75 US I think...that's what it was a couple years ago but I don't think it's changed much.

Also, deskspace is a major issue in college. luckily I live in the middle of no-where michigan and get a huge ass house, and also a desk in my room that's 3.5' deep and 7' wide! If I was still in the dorms I would spend the cash on LCD's before anything else....So what I'm saying for you is only get the monitor if you got the deskspace or need the deskspace.

I think a 17" LCD is better than a 21" CRT because LCDs are better for your eyes and they save space, but it couldn't hurt to have that 21" CRT as a spare, either.

I'd get two 21" CRT's for that price.:D
