I have one.. Its an awesome crt, looks great. Although i didnt know they originally named them 997mb, I do know it says 997df on the monitor and it is the newest model.
Freaking awesome monitor, but i think i already said that.... ;)
I have one of these... dunno about the numbering situation, I can't find anything about this monitor on the internet anywhere so it must be new. I have had it for about 2 hours and I would say that I am very pleased with it so far. Of course it is too early to tell without my new GPU (Plan on running 1600x1200 but the drivers for ATI in Linux suck because ATI sucks, support and hardware wise).
This monitor barely even shows any moire affect if at all which is surpising for a Shadowmask. I would give this monitor a 9/10 just because it's controls suck if you are not used to them. Hated adjusting it but I will get used to it.
Just looked at the site you linked to, the only difference that I can see is that the MB comes with more options for brightness, and a higher level of brightness. Basically if you like ugly washed out looking picture or use your monitor in some place that is over lit that is the monitor for you. I personally think that all of these bright CRT and LCD's look ugly, but that is just me. Heh, at least my taste saves me money.

DF means DynaFlat, true flat crt display. MB is for MagicBright, the new fangled holy cow it looks so bright. DF is the better imho.
997df = 330 cd/m2 brightness
vs
997mb = 500 cd/m2 brightness

Like I have this 955df now and when I have a black backround on my screen, qith a white icon or pointer i see a white haze or ghosting around it. It also ghosts alot when I move the pointer or use the microsoft 3d text with a white font
Is this supposed to happen
If you move your pointer, how long does this ghost image linger there 1 ms, 1 sec, ect...
My AST 7L will leave a slight ghost image from the pointer if thrown from side to side very quickly.

Return it to samsung.... well known problem... and they'll ship you out another monitor.
A whole second. Dang, that don't sound right at all.
Do you have a second monitor to try. And if so what happens?

The reason that the 997MB does not have a lot of info about it is because it is not available in the U.S. If you go to samsung-monitor.com, you will find info about both monitors, but if you go to samsungusa.com, you see that only the 997DF is available in the States. Here's what I have gathered:
*the 997DF up to has 330cd/m2 brightness (and has MagicBright I controls via its MagicTune software)
*the 997MB has up to 500cd/m2 brightness (and has a MagicBright II button for quick changes in brightness)
*the 957MB has up to 330cd/m2 brightness (and has a MagicBright I button for quick changes in brightness)
So you might be wondering, "Why doesn't Samsung sell a monitor in the US that has MagicBright II (i.e., 500cd/m2)"? The funny thing is, they do, but only in 17" (the 793MB). So there would seem to be a hole in the Samsung U.S.A. product line. I would really like to buy the 997MB, as it has the new brightness levels, and the nifty button, all at 19"--why only other parts of the world can get it is beyond me--perhaps Samsung U.S.A. is trying to sell off its 957MBs before introducing a newer 19" MB model (i.e., the 997MB)? Who knows. I just sent off an e-mail to Samsung U.S.A. asking why they have this hole in their product line (and why BestBuy states that the warranty is 1-year and you can buy a 3-year one for $29.99 while samsungusa.com and vendors like newegg.com list the regular warranty as 3 years).

Samsung got back to me. They said that the 997MB will not be available in the U.S. and that the 957MB will be discontinued very soon (July/August), replaced by the DF line (like the 997DF).

Sorry to ressurect this thread, but I am looking for a new monitor and I have my eyes set on the Samsung 997. Which model do you recommend I choose, The DF (Dynaflat) or the MB (MagicBrite). Does the MB model have a perfect flat surface? looking at screenshots (on google) it looks identical to the DF, but Im not 100% sure.

Can someone tell me what the maximum refresh rate at 1280x960 is? I get 100hz but I doubt it can do that.
I am considering this monitor (997df-t) to replace my Sony 19" and it looks like a great buy.

Hi, wich is the maximum refresh rate that the 997DF can reach? Doesn't matter resolution (may be 800x600). I'm looking for a monitor that supports up to 120 hz for using my 3d glasses provided with my video card.
Thanks, Christian
