I have a Lucent/Ascend Pipeline 85 router/hub that I just hooked up last weekend for my ISDN connection.

I can join multiplayer games just fine, but I cannot host and I cannot be pinged. Any advice on how to set up my router so I can host multiplayer games and Roger Wilco channels?

Is there an easy way to find my internet IP address(dynamic)? I used to use winipcfg when I was using a dial up modem, but with the router I can only get my internal machine or router IP address, Not my assigned internet IP address.

I did download a program called "mywanip" or something that is supposed to find it, and it appears to work, but I'd like to know how to find it myself.

Thanks, as a newbie to this I appreciate all the help I can get.

Go to www.dslreports.com and go to test and do who is. That will give you your internet side ip. I am not sure about the rest of the stuff, I think you may have to forward some ports to the internal ip that will be serving.

You should be able to either http or telnet into your router and locate your external IP. Also you need to know what ports to open on the router for others to connect to your hosted game. This varies from game to game

Thanks for the replies...

Yuck, so I have to set up the router differently for all games I want to host?

Is there an easy way to do this?

My router manuals, all gazillion pages of it aren't very clear, as they aren't really designed for the gamer...

thanks,

Basically all you will need to do is open the UDP port that the game uses and assign it to the IP of your game server. When someone requests a connection to your server it will send the request to your real IP (the router), the router will see that port and know which PC to send the request to and vice versa.

Check the manufacturers website FAQs, there are almost always a step by step instruction on how to do it that is easier to understand than what is in the manual. I'm not familiar with that router so all I can give are basics.
