I'm interested to know what everyone with a dial up connection manages to acheive.
Cable/dsl welcome to brag here too!
56K modem - 4.8kb/sec here in Bonnie Aberdeen!

I'm on work now, they have 512k ADSL! :)
At home I have ISDN.
7-8kb/s for one line, 14-16kb/s when I use both lines...
Usually 300-400 K/Sec I have gotten over 1 MB/Sec before from a fast server. Mostly my cable seems limited by the server sending me the file. Even with my home network I have never seen the cable get bogged down so I don't think bandwidth is a problem.

It really depends on the server you are downloading from. I get over 900kb/sec from my ISP's FTP site. But then i can go to download.com or whatever and get under 20kb/sec:rolleyes:
my average is from 200K to about 400K
Well My dial-up says connected at 53333bps and It depends on who i'm downloading from like if I download something off Phiber I get 10kbs but anywhere else 7-5kbs maybe 9 I have a very good ISP and they are reliable too.

Now there's a point I never mentioned. I've a 56k V90 modem, but it says I'm connected at 115,000bps, but acheiving 4.8kb/s consistently. You should have seen how log it took me to download VulpineGL Mark (53Megs)!!!!!!

WHAT? I have cable. I have a 100M SWITCH not hub I have 2 10/100 cards connecting at 100 in my server. And I have a 10/100 card in my machine connection at 100. The highest I have ever seen a DL go is 208 from Microsoft. I get 40 to 110 average.
I've heard there is a reg tweak to get the most from broadband but not sure where to get it or if it even works.....

I will have to wait until I get home. (at work now)
I have seen people post speeds like yours b4. I just don't get it.
I just ran it on our DSL at work. It posted a 204k transfer rate. I know my connection at home seems faster than this. What info do you need?

I use www.speedguide.net tweaks and I have awesome speeds, about 2-3 times what it runs at without the tweaks. The highest I have had my line tested at was 3745/278 at the DSLreports test site.

On tests i generally get 2000/200 but thanks to noobie_doo's reg tweaks i brought it to 2000/379 approx. Actual downloads i get in the area of 150-300kbps. No camplaints here.
With my brothers calbe line I get about 1500/1500. And downloads range from 100k-1500k using Download Accelerator. That program is great for when your download speed is limited by the server. It grabs multiple links to the same file. So if the server limits you to 50kbps, download Accelerator can grab 4 connections to the same file and get 200Kbps. Not too shabby I say! :)

Does this work better than some reg tweaks I have been hearing about?

WAY better. It could easily quadruple your download speeds on cable/DSL.

Very cool. I think I'll try it.
BTW it seems I am getting about 235kps at home

I can download between 600 and 1200 KB a second depending on time of day.
My cable runs about 300-500 down depending on the server, and I love the www.speedguide.net tweaks, they work great.

I have a 512/128 connection through Sprint. The actual speeds are about 550/140 though.

With DSL, my best average DL is 70 kbps.
When changing ISPs from Juno to AT@T, my numbers went up a whole 2Kb/s. All you still in the dark ages (like me!) know what a 2Kb/s jump is like! Right now I'm averaging around 5Kbps.

At the mo, cos my ISP is poncing around with their servers, and it takes about 8 tries to get on-line, I think I'm probly one of a few who can be @r$d to try to logon.
This morning (technically yesterday), I downloaded the latest VirusScan dat file at 9.5k/s until I got bored watching the big numbers, so opened up NS Messenger, and a couple of Mozilla windows, to slow it down to 4.9-5.5k/s
I have a 56k modem :¬(} (and probly will have until 2004 or later if BT ponce around the way they have been...)
Usually I d/l the dat file at around 4.7-4.9k/s (using the dat file as e.g. as its something I d/l regularly enough to notice the speed).
Gotta do some research about tweaking Win2k to work better with 56k modems...

200-450kbps off the net, even faster off microsoft servers.
I once was downloading off of scour (Like Kazaa or morpheus but got shut down) at 7, yes 7 megs a second. It only lasted a few seconds, but it got like 35 megs in that time.
My neighbourhood isn't very busy on cable, so when my cable works, it moves like stink (LOL, I love that expression). On bandwidth speed tests, I have seen as much as 7Mbits

I notice a huge diff after using this tweak. I just DL a few files and they were about 250k. The DL window just flashed and then closed. WOOHOO.
Thanks Phiber......
I am still tweaking for the max speed. (imagine that). :)
I'll post back with an update....
Last check was 626kbps
well I'm on 56k. Hopefully DSL pretty soon. I don't want to get roped into the $150 start up of cable. I get 5.5k usually. Anything above that and I'm a pig in S**T.

Why $150.....?
$40 a month and there was a $50 setup that was waived for a time when I got it.

I have about 1.2 - 1.6Mbps on my dsl!
When I finally get settled into our new townhouse Sprint has a new service called Ion. For $100/month they do your local calls, high speed dsl (8mb/sec down and 1mb/sec up), 200 minutes of long distance, and the whole thing is VoIP or VoATM! I can't wait to get my hands on that. Unfortunately it has to wait until November because our close date is Oct 29th.

I have juno too, is AT+T really that much better? I guess the real question is what connection speed you were getting with juno. I get usually 50,600. If ATT is that much better, I'll switch too. :)

I have a dial-up connection with my local phone company that has a minimal load on their servers. After tweaking my registry (gotta love regedit.com) I get results up to 48k at various speed testing sites. I usually get 10-14k while downloading from decent servers. My upload speed is horrible though - only 3.5 max :(
