View Full Version : Monitor Too Bright
I just picked up a monitor , a black Sony Trinitron Flat Screen CRT. Its a refurb only about a year and a half old. I just set it up and to me it seems a bit bright. It dont seem to be the brightness settings. Isn't there a way you can alter the brightness throu Windows XP? Or maybe its something else? There are tons of settings on here and i dont even know what half of them are for :D

I'm quite surprised you don't have a setting on you monitor (are you absolutely sure????). Even my P95F trinitron has a brightness setting. In general, the aperture grill of a trinitron results in a much brighter picture than a less expensive shadow mask tube.
Anyhow, your Video card driver should have a section to adjust the display attributes (yes, brightness) (At least ATI does under the "Colors" TAB; I'm sure Nvidia has similar if you look for it). XP does not have any services to do this; only your VID card driver or the Monitor itself would.
Thanks, its ok i managed to sort it out. It does have a brightness option, i was just wondering whether there were any in XP as well. A computer i was using the other week had colour/brightness options in XP but now i think about it, it was a Dell system and it was some software that had been installed by Dell.
I just reset the factory settings and set it up from there and its fine now, adjusing the options on my monitor and vid card and now its perfect...I think the fact the monitor is black affects the look too, as stupid as it may sound...You seem to notice brightness etc more. Or maybe i'm just imagining that :D
