Do you have brand & model? Anyway, 16ms panels are slower than conventional crt technology. However, many people experience little problems in gaming with most 16 ms panels, it is pretty much subjective to the user. All but the most twitchiest, fast visual games like UT run well, Ie halo works fine as well as other FPS, any other genre runs fine. For the most part, you should be good.

16ms = 62.5 frames per second. The generally agreed figure as the most the human eye can register is something like 35FPS.

I have a 20.5" 16ms panel and FPS gaming looks just as good as it did on my 21" Trinitron CRT.

eh, there really isn't one. to know what fps you want, you just have to test it yourself and see what you can live with. it depends on so many things...air force pilots have been known to correctly identify aircraft that were flashed in front of their eyes for 1/500th of a second, plus many people can definitely tell the difference between 60hz refresh, 85hz refresh, 120hz refresh etc. it's just somethin you gotta decide for yourself, there's nothing you can really say about "what the human eye can register"

Theres been a lot of discussion regarding this on the forums, so try a search. But nevertheless, I agree with LtBlue14, furthermore, whats even more confusing is the fact that there is no standard way to test response time. So one manufacturers 16ms spec can be slower than another manufacturers 25ms spec. It depends.. i would like to state however that most of the 16ms and 20ms are quick and I have been using my Planar PX171m for over a year now and like it a lot. The newer dell 2001fp are suppose to be nice as hell. Check it out. Depends on the person, but I see no reason to get a crt, but again, like i said, it depends on the person lol.

the thread originator just wanted to know whether 16ms is good enough ...

i'd say it's more than enough .. get the benq one (thru newegg, they have one of the better deals for LCDs), or sony's (a friend has this, got his with rebate that brought the total down to the same price as the benq .., and for the best of the best, samsung.

it's a good idea to go to your local computer store and see some displays there for yourself (major retail stores have samsung units, some have sony)

Does 20ms LCD monitor make a big difference in 16ms one?

I don't think so. I have played on 25ms pannels, and they were fine for me.

People are all intot he number, go test some out, and buy what you like.

agree .. a good 25ms LCD (like those samsungs) will give most people more then enough image quality (very little/unnoticable ghosting) ... but I tried sceptre brand before, and their 25ms panels SUCKED big time ..

it's all about the brand :D

I don't know where people are finding these monitors that are lower than 25m response time. I looked under newegg, zip, and went to a few others and couldn't find anything in a 19inch that wasn't 25 or higher. Please post with a thread.

the whole ms thing is just a bunch of BS. That is the time it takes for a pixel to go from dark to light to dark again. However what about from red to blue? Or blue to green to yellow? These things are totally different. A dark game may run worse than a well lit one because of this. The real test isn't about refrest times. There are 20ms monitors such as dells 2001FP that outgame monitors claiming 16ms. The key test, which it is hard to find figures on this, is grey to grey time. That is the one that I hear is the best to pay atention to.
