ok, I just reformatted and reinstalled win98se and all of the latest and grreatest drivers for my system. The problem is, the computer will just lock up at random times. I haven;t been able to install Madden 2001 because it can't make it through the entire setup before locking. Can anyone help?

How did you set up your drivers? Do you have the VIA busmastering drivers installed. If so use the MS drivers.

What other HW do you have?

I have the via bus mastering drivers installed...where can I get the ms bus mastering drivers, and why are they better?

Beside the stuff listed below, ,I have 256 megs pc133 ram.

BTW, I just tried to install another game, with the same results.

The microsoft drivers are on your Win cd. Go to system properties and hardware manager. Select hard disk controllers and then properties. Update driver and manually pick I will show you standard drivers select that one and reboot. Did you load agp in turbo? This can also cause probs. You can fix this by reinstalling the drivers and not selecting turbo. This is a prob with the Via chipset...

Good luck

Thanks for all the help, sam. But does this affect the ability to install something off of a cd.

Thanks for everything, but I figured it out. it was something stupid, as always.
I just unchecked the "disconnect" option unnder the cdrom properties in device manager. Now it works like a charm!!

Why does it always have to be something so simple? Makes a person feel kinda retarded :D

You will find that the best way to learn, is from your mistakes...honestly, you have no idea how many of them I have made but now, 10 years of learning has paid off :D
