I've been having resizing problems with my Viewsonic GT775 monitor.
About a year and ahalf ago this problem first manifested. Somehow I fixed the problem but then it came back. I thought it was my video card but I recenlty just purchased a Saphire Radeon 9800 Pro video card and still have the same problem.
My monitor won's resize itself correctly when windows starts up or changes resolutions for games, etc. I thought that once you adjust your monitor, it remebers those settings. My monitor can remember 800x600 but that's about it. Do I need a new monitor? This is kind of annoying. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Well, there are 2 thoughts that I get when reading your post.
First, when you say, that you thought its supposed to remember the settings, that makes me think its a windows registry error of sorts. Something possibly not correctly setup or the such. Have you re-installed windows at any time since the problem started happening?
Second, when you say it has trouble resizing, that makes me think is the monitor. I would really need to be there to see the problem itself, and give a estimate of what it seems to be doing. Can you provide any more information on it?
I will help as much as I can. Later.

I have a Gateway vx900 monitor at work and once you get all of your settings (horizontal & vertical position) where you want them you have to hit the "store" button to keep your settings. You might need to store your settings somehow. I could be completly off though.

I don't think it's a windows registry error since the problem persists with the monitor on two different boxes, one with windows me and the other with windows xp pro.
Another example of the problem is that when windows boots up, the screen will be squashed and offcenter. I will go through my monitor settings to readjust and size the screen properly. If I go away and let the monitor go on power saving mode or turn it off, when I reactivate the monitor the screen is back to the squahed image that it showed when I first booted up.
If I start a game, everytime the screen resolution changes, i.e. for menus, loading, or game, the screen will be distorted and offcenter.
My monitor won't remember the screen settings after I adjust the screen. When I get home I will check to see if I have to push a button or something to save the setting. I haven't had to do this when I first bought the monitor along time ago. I had this problem awhile ago for a bit, somehow manage to fix it and now it's happened again.

hmmmm, listening to that, it does seem like an internal monitor problem *apologies for the windows registry error comment, I am still going on instinct here*. How long have you had this monitor? There could be some general deterioration from age, common in most monitors. I have a Gateway Ev700 that I take to Lan parties *well, did take to Lan parties*, but it has been getting more and more blurry over the ages, so I have given up on it. Just a thing of time and deterioration.

I kind of figured it might be from old age. I've had the monitor for about five years. Picture is still good, just won't resize. CompUSA has a Viewsonic / NEC 19" monitor for $250. I've upgraded my computer in October and just bought a Radeon 9800 Pro. Only thing that is left is the monitor. Sigh, i'm trying to save money but it isn't working out too good.
