Alrighty then. I've finally gotten into the forums after trying to find my e-mail and p/w for roadrunner...I've been having many a problem with my new abit is7-e mobo I recieved yesterday. I installed it and made sure I properly seated agp card, ram, made sure the psu connectors are all hooked up. push power...nothing except fans and hdd spinning. clear cmos w/ all power off, push power, it says no keyboard is plugged in!!!! I've read that other users with the same mobo had the same problem so I tried the keyboard jumpers clearing cmos again, etc. NOTHING except hdd spinning and fans again!!! I'm doubting its the motherboard or psu because they are both brand new but the gods may be angry with me and keep my efforts futile. My old board was a asus p4p800 when the problem first arose. Everything was running fine for about a month or longer when suddenly it said I was overclocking then died when i wasn't oc! took it into a computer repair shop they tested it w/ new psu and mobo and I WATCHED IT WORK! So I ordered a new mobo and psu and here I am.. I know there are many geniusus here and I need your help, when I get my comp up and running I want to try ocing it for the first time succesfully. (previously with my asus p4p800 i tried to oc by 5%, wasnt stable so I set it back about a month before the problem and it worked fine up until then)
I dont know if I've been descriptive enough (or too much) so let me know anything at all, I've tried everything but i wont mind trying it again just for fun. Oh yeah! To top it all off I had flaming diarreah last night!!!!
my setup as of now (non working rig):
abit is7-e
pentium 4 2.53ghz w/ 533 mhz fsb
2 sticks kingston valueRAM pc3200 512MB
Seagate 80gb hdd (master)
Quantum 10gb hdd (slave, had it lying around)
built by ati radeon 9800 np 128mb
soundblaster audigy 2 platinum
a+ gpb 400 watt psu (im getting a thermaltake 480 silent from XXXXXX wednesday)

If anyone has ANY suggestion whatsoever please feel free, even if you just want to say im stupid and tell me to shut up, just please post something. I've been working on this computer for over a year now and the emotional and physical investment that goes along with the financial investment is seriously taking its toll, if anyone could offer advice ill take it, thank you:rolleyes:

Just so I'm clear - You don't see a bios splash screen? Do you see any screen at all, or do you just hear fans and such? If those are working then you can almost definately rule out your PSU.
I 'think' this might be the problem..
Do you have any PC2100 memory laying around? All you need is a 128MB DIMM..
One thing I can think off straight away, is that the bios is defaulting to 2.5v to the memory - not enough to boot PC3200.
If you don't have PC2100 memory laying around, then run to CircuitCity, or the like, and spend 30 bucks on some. Pop that into your motherboard and reboot.
If you get into the bios, then that's your problem most likely.
I would go ahead and boot all the way into Windows, then boot back into the bios screen, increase the vDIMM to 2.8v, reboot to Windows...shut down the computer, install your PC3200 and reboot. It should work then.

I attempted the pc2100 RAM to no avail. nothing has come up on the screen. Ive noticed alot of people have had problems similar to the one im having on this mobo as well as others, so i know im not alone on this one. I've noticed on the cpu theres a little hole in the corner, is it bad to have thermal compound in this hole? if so im probably screwed because im sure its crammed in there. if i need to get another processor its no big deal, but im probably going to rma my mobo anyway to get a new one as the one i got didnt come with a jumper on the wake on keyboard/mouse. hopefully ill get my new psu no later than wednesday so i can be certain that isnt the problem. im sure i sound like im whining alot but i am a newb to the details and i really appreciate the help matts. well, ill catch ya tomorrow, im hittin the hay.

Sounds like a bad bios then. I'd go ahead and send it back.
No, it's not an issue about getting thermal grease inside that little hole on the CPU heatsink.

No post at all. hmmm
Usually that would be associated with a bad cpu but seeing how you already done that then... can only think of two things.
1. Check for a short.
2. Do you have the 4 pin auxillary connector plugged into the board?

Yes, I have the ATX power source (20 pin?)and the 4pin 12v powersource plugged in. Im curious though if the 12v connector is damaged and there is no equipment to test it with, but of course theres equipment to test the atx power 20 pin. Im receiving a new psu (thermaltake 480w xaser silent) early this week, but im afraid to test it on the mobo, could the psu get screwed from the mobo? or is it just the other way around? haha, stay with me on this one im not an expert (an ex is a has-been and a spurt is a drip under pressure =) )

LOL
I have never heard of a psu getting blasted by a mobo before but I spose its possible if there was a bad ground on the board somewhere. I would think you would be able to smell it though if there was something seriously wrong. I, however am no ex spurt :) at this and hopefully someone else that knows a little more could post for you. You should do yourself a favor and get a multimeter as that is the only way to know for sure if there is something wrong there. Plus you will have the peace of mind to know that your voltages are stable even when voltage software programs are telling you they are or aren't. I just picked up a digital multimeter from wally world for $20 so it isn't a huge investment. They even had one that wasn't digital for $12.
I have never had a bios go bad before but as mattspalace suggested that could definately be your evil gremlin.

You call it Wally World too! Cool, well, ill go pick up a tester as i need one anyway. The company I ordered my mobo from is going to charge me 35$ if it isnt broken and whos to say that it isnt but them. I hope to god they dont screw me on this, ive been screwed enough in the past year and a half with this rig. My other psu should be in tomorrow, so Ill test that out with the mobo just as well even though I already got it boxed up. I already applied for the RMA even though I had 30 days. It just irks me how ive been having this problem with two different psu's and two different mobos. Yet I WATCHED in front of my very eyes and witnessed my computer working on a different mobo and psu. The harddrives and dvd/cd rom/burner, and fdd were all running I can't remember if the video card was in or not (although I dont know how hed get the moniter working. I've tried everything taking out video card, hard drives, taking out the mobo and everything else, even tested a pci slot video card. )
Thank god for my girlfriend letting me use her computer or I wouldnt be getting help here right now. :D
I just wanna get this puppy up and running with all the heat sinks and fans i ordered so I can OC hopefully up to 3 ghz. Though Ive heard with the 2.53 533fsb its hard to get past 2.8. Although I've read the article with the 1.8 running up to 2.6 stable. Im just beginning to learn from the tip of the iceberg going down like the titanic, just hope my rig doesnt sink with me:eek: Thanks for your help guys, hopefully I can become a frequent and active member of this community, youve been a great deal of help, thanks for not turning the cold shoulder. Catch ya all later.

Hey, I tested the new psu, definately not the problem. I think It may have been a ram chip with a surface mount capacitor that fell off. Im RMAing the board as soon as I hear back from them about my application, god I think I'll have to call them....uggh:mad:

Edge386,
have you tried starting your rig with just the video card, ram and psu hooked up to the board? That should at least let you get to post where it says no hard drive detected. Then hook everything else up one at a time till you find your evil gremlin.

Well, I already RMA'd my mobo after trying everything and they confirmed that it was fried and are sending me a replacement. How often do retail boxed mobos come fried? lol, anywho I was applying heatspreaders to my RAM... and when I peeled the sticer that voids the warranty (muwahaha) so the heat would get dispersed, a surface mount capacitor peeled off with the sticker! (read my post "Something fell off!" under memory forums) I am hoping and assuming that that was the problem. If so I know a guy at an appliance repair store that said he would solder it back on for me (maybe cause its REAAAAAAL TINY) So hopefully Ill get my new mobo and everything will be up and running. Thanks for all the help everyone. Ill be back posting more soon if my rig is working or not ;)
