hey whats up people. i havent been here in forever!

anyways my 21 inch dell monitor quit working! it just up and died one day. the fuse in the back is still good. the power light on the front does not come on anymore, how ever if i turn the thing on, it makes a high pitched squealing sound. i opened it up and poked around at its innards with a screwdriver and i couldnt see any blown caps or lose wires or anything. so does anyone have any idea what cound be wrong?
thanks.

btw the model number is dell ultrascan 21fs-n model= vc8n

i figured out whats wrong. there is these wires that when i touch them, they shock me, and also while i get shocked the noise changes. they go to some circut board with all these tweeky looking adjusters and this is getting over my head so i will just strip the monitor for the caps, and there is a HUGE heatsink, im talking 6x9x1 inches, and just full of fins. probably very good heat shedding capacity. its almost as bid as an atx mainboard.

some kinda noise filter for the a/c line looks like it would be neat to have also. and the caps, those are fun for putting in the fireplace.

You really should be careful in a standard tube type monitor. I know for a fact that in televisions the kind of voltages that can be in there can be lethal. I wouldn't doubt that the electricity stored in that monitor could still potentially be lethal as well, or at least enough to make you lose a hand or something.

BE VERY CAREFUL on the caps and around the suction cup like apparatus... It will kill you if it discharges into you and monitors hold their charge for years sometimes.

since I got here first I get to do it.:p

I'd imagine NcBaller1985 will be along shortly to tell you to watch out cause getting shocked hurts.
