I posted this in General Hardware, haven't receive a response yet:

I just formatted my old hard drive and added a CD burner to my old Micron system to sell to a friend since I put together a new PC for myself.

When I power up, the monitor isn't coming on and I'm getting some beeps from the PC speaker (not sure of the code). I've seen this problem around before. What is the fix? I'll probably reset the BIOS and see if that helps.

You could have bad or poorly seated RAM or Video card. Try opening the case and reseating the RAM and Video card. If that doesn't work, disconnect all drives and remove all cards except video and reboot. Does it come up? If it does, reconnect all items one at a time and reboot. The bad device will cause it to fail to boot. If it doesn't come up the first time, then you could have a bad video card, bad ram, bad cpu, bad mobo, or bad PSU. You will have to test the ram, cpu, and video card in another computer.

Make sure you plugged the power cable into the drive. I know it sounds stupid, but you never know. It took me about 4 days to figure out why my system wouldn't power up. When I figured it out, I felt like a complete idiot.:)

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I check all the obvious. Its definitely not the video card, I tried that in another system and it worked fine.

Uninstalled modem card, ethernet card, and sound card, still not working  :(

I'm still getting 5 or so fast beeps when the hard drive begins to spin up.

It doensn't look like the keyboard and mouse are getting power either. Hmmm. Usually they stay on even when the system is off as long as the power cord is connected.

Any ideas? I also reset CMOS and that didn't help.
