View Full Version : Dell 1901FP rolling dead pixel?
Just received my new exchanged Dell 1901FP from them and now this. I thought everything was ok when i got it but now that I have been able to use it more I have noticed that it has what seems to be rolling stuck pixels. When I open some web pages there seems to be stuck pixel(s) on that page, that pixel(s) does not stay at one stationary location but rolls with the page as I'm scrolling up or down. These are larger than a pixel and seem more like this size " . " matter of fact it's the same size as a period and sometimes they will be in a pattern of a line with space in between them.
I have not done anything else to my PC except change out the LCD, the video card and all hardware is the same. Did I receive yet another defective LCD?
are you sure its not a corrupted video driver?? do you see it still after you change your refresh rate?? try the LCD on another computer and if that works fine then well guess its time for a format on your computer....:D
It’s still there after I changed the refresh rate and I downloaded the drivers again to see if that was it or not. Now there are on my desktop but when I run a pixel test they do not show up as dead/stuck pixels.
Seems to be more prominent in Mozilla Firebird than IE6, but when I run Instant Copy the preview screen they show up as blinking on and off stuck blocks. So, that cancels the thought that is was Mozilla all along.
try it on another machine???
if that doesn't help.. ship it back for a working one

Doesn't sound like an LCD issue to me. I'd definitely try it on another PC, as others have suggested. Your best bet would probably be video drivers. Is your video card overclocked at all? Not too likely, but maybe what your seeing is video card artifacts.
As far as I know though, a dead pixel is a dead pixel. I don't think it is possible for a dead pixel to "roll," feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.;)

Seems everyone is right on this one. I switched out my Albatron GeForce4 Ti4200 128MB, which was not overclocked, back to my VisonTek 9100 64MB and those "rolling pixels" disappeared. That is a shame that Ti card went out on me so soon.
Seems that the picture quality is better with the 9100 but it's only 64MB vs 128MB. Thinking about getting a 128MB 9100 think it's worth it?

Usually ati based cards have better 2d visual quality than most nvidia cards from what I have heard.

Get a 9600XT and get a free copy of Half-Life 2 (when ever it comes out) :D :D :D Then send it to me...
Well, when I get a really good paying job I'll buy that card and send the game to you. But by that time you would have gotten the game for FAR or something close to that in price.
On a serious side though I do not game much but was wondering if I should get an ATi 128mb card.

Well if you were intending to buy a 9200 or below, I don't think the advantage is that big. I think another Ti4200 would be better.
But if you want to stick with ATI, 67 bucks will get you a Gigabyte 9200 128meg card.
But benchmarks also show the Ti4200 is much better. I'd stick with that, but get it from a different company than yours.
I will look into that Gigabyte card for only $67. Where did you find that price anyway? I would like to get another Ti4200 but I think I will wait for black Friday and see what deals arise in the video card department. I'm sure the Ti4200 will be priced just right at some retailer during that time.
