I have some Z 680s and have th volume set at the middle of the third blcok on the controll pod... every time the sone i listen to hits a rather "bassy" note the screen seems to do something crazy... i can't really detect motion, but it feels wierd.... is this bad for my monitor, or am i halucinationg (sp)?

i mean the volume really isn't loud.... im not one of those crazy guys that turn thier volume way to loud and when you drive by your whole car shaked :D

Is the subwoofer close to the monitor, or sharing the same surface? There could be mechanical or electrical interference causing this. Try moving the subwoofer, and see if that helps.

well its under the desk and is in no way touching the desk... it is kinda close, but there really isn't anywhere else for it to go....:( is only seperated from the monitor by about 2.5 feet and the desk surface.

are they connected to the same outlet? maybe for some reason the sub is sucking a butload of power for that split second away from the monitor. Kinda like sometimes when you're washing machine kicks on the lights kinda flicker for a split second. I dunno, just my guess.

Hmmm... Shaky Monitor Syndrome (SMS). I used to diagnose this when I worked in tech support. Usually the culprit was an AC adapter or electric motor (usually a desk fan) either a) on the same circuit as the monitor, or b) in very close physical proximity to the monitor or the video cables.

If the speakers have a power "brick", try moving that around, as those things put out an ungodly amount of interference. It may be integrated into the subwoofer if there's not a separate adapter, so next try moving *that*, or plugging it into a different outlet. Are you using a monitor extension cable? If so, ditch it or find a better one. It sounds like something in the speakers is putting out noise/crosstalk that's interfering with the transmission of the video signal from the PC to the monitor -- if it was strong enough to affect the monitor's electon guns, you'd usually see severe shaking and it'd be obvious what's wrong. Move things around until it stops. :p

I dont know about subs, but when i hold my cell phone close to the monitor that makes the monitor do wierd stuff too. i know there is nothing wrong with the monitor but it does it anyway. I dont know if it does this because there is an electric device right by it or if it has something to do with the way the cell brodcasts.

I came across a similar problem like what you're experiencing... i tried moving my speakers/ac power brick around too but it didn't seem to do anything... i did lower my refresh rate from 85 hertz down to 75 hertz and it seemed to fix it (no more "shakies")...

lol. yeah this is a great way to break your monitor by the way. mobile phones should be keep away from monitors.

our uni looses about 10 monitors every 6 month due to mobile phones. oh and we ban mobile phones from computer labs (well they have to be off)

try switching of the sub and just use ur normal speaks. any problems now?
didnt think so.

you can turn off just the sub....? i dont' think so(unless you do it thorugh software or something), and then it would kinda defeat the purpose of getting Z 680s.... i was just wondering if i was just seeing things or something.

oh sorry depends what kind of hifi setup you have. well you could try or switching of the sub or setting it to the lowest values.

and you never just see things! its always the monitors faults.
sometimes my picture is really good and sometimes its a bit blurred. god know why, i reccon where i live there is a strong EMF field which comes and goes :(

Well when I have the bass on my Logitech's up a bit, it vibrates my eyes, making everything look a bit crazy. Try standing away from your monitor and sub and see if the monitor is strange. If its not, YOU are too close to the sub, move it away from you.

peace.

I don't think that the bass output of the sub is your problem. I have 6 subs 3 of them no more than 3 feet from my monitor and have never seen any negative effects with my monitor. It could be a loose connection between your vid card and the monitor itself, or as others have mentioned a power problem. Also it is entirely possible that the bass produced by your 680's sub is causing your vision to blur slightly as I see this quite often if I concentrate on text while listening to a bass heavy track.

Heh, ya no monitor problems here. Just glad to help ya out :) the stereo was a long time in the making, it all started about 3 years ago, and I've been building it up ever since. I still have a set of technics SB T200's that I wanna work in eventually, but I have run out of room in my 10x10' room, hehe it's barely a room, just a computer a bed and speakers :)

What kind of monitor is this? If it is Trinitron or Diamondtron, that's your answer. Instead of a "sheet" of perforated plastic to define pixels, Trinitron and like tubes use vertical wires, suspended inside the tube. Slap the side of your monitor, and if a very slight moire pattern develops for a few seconds, you have your answer.

I have a CPD-G410R (19" Trinitron FD) and also use Logitech 680's, and I do not get any distortion no matter how loud they are, but I do know that sometimes when I hoot in joy when playing a game, or slap the table in defeat, I see a little moire. My monitor is on the upper left of my desk, the subwoofer under the desk to the right.

i have a samsung SnycMaster 900NF.... i just hit the monitor pretty hard.... no distortion there....

I still just think it is the bass waves distorting your vision.
