Im building a rig soon and im wondering if i should go with a 19" CRT or a 17" LCD. ive never owned an lcd monitor and ive heard that pixals often come dead, or die, on them. how noticeable are these dead pixals?

the LCD ive been looking at is:
NEC MultiSync LCD1760V-BK 17" LCD. ($399 on newegg)

the CRT is:
NEC/Mitsubishi 19" CRT VGA Monitor Model FE991SB-BK. ($258 on newegg)

the CRT seems to offer decent performance, but the LCD maxes at 1280x1024 @ only 75hz. how bad is this? i will be doing alot of gaming, but ill be going off to college after this year and i like the idea of a less space-consuming monitor. what do u reommend and why?

I have 1 dead pixel on my NEC 1760NX-BK 17", it's near the right edge, and it's pretty much black. Very small, small as a tiny dot at 1280x1024 native, very unnoticable for me.

Also regarding gaming, LCDs should be run at 60Hz, as at 60, there is virtually no flicker anyway, LCDs refresh the screen much differently than CRTs.

I leave my games with vsync on, capped at 60hz. Looks great, no ghosting.

When I left it at 100FPS max, I seen pretty bad ghosting.

Is .24 milimetres noticable to you?

The dead pixels are not an issue unless there is a bunch of them. It's bad pixels that are the problem I have a cheap 14" for a briefcase rig I built, and it has 3 white pixels all the time.
