Digicam minus the delay

I have a really crappy Kodak digicam right now, which I wholeheartedly regret getting without doing my research. Anyway, besides the obvious sticking points of proprietary software and average-quality pics, there's a delay whenever it takes a picture, which sort of puts action shots out of the question. I know this isn't unique to the Kodak, but there's no real way I think you can tell just by looking at a camera's specs. Can anyone recommend or show me how to tell if a camera doesn't have that delay?
