I need a new monitor , and I can only buy from my retailer since its a lot cheaper than buying online (Shipping will kill me, plus easy to return to retailer if something is wrong)

I've done my best to single out the ones I can AFFORD.
I'm in Canada so no newegg or anything, and I'm not really into buying a monitor online one way or another.

All prices are in Canadian Dollars. :D

Viewsonic:
E70F+SB: 17" (16") 0.25, 1280x1024, perfect flat screen, Silver & Black $195.99

LG:
LG T710BH 17" 1280 .24 FLATRON $175.99

Envision:
ENVISION 770E 17IN.25MM 1280X1024 FLAT $166.54

NEC:
NEC ASYNC AS70 BLACK 17in 1280X1024 $189
Dot/Grille Pitch 0.27 / 0.23 mm hor.
Maximum Resolution 1280 x 1024 @ 66 Hz

Samsung:
SAMSUNG 753DF 17IN .20MM (H) 1280X1024 @65HZ $196.02

So which ones would you choose?

I would go Viewsonic myself.

If you were online shopping I'd tell you to get over to www.dfsdirect.ca (Dell Direct) asap and grab a Dell Trinitron unit for dirt cheap - got my P991 from there for $250 taxes paid when they had a free shipping sale going and it's been awesome - even had a 6 month warranty :)

I would go Samsung....while thy may not be the most highly regarded when it comes to quality, they give you great bang for your buck..I have 2 Samsungs and they are the best picture of any monitor I have...I also have a habit of leaving things on top of my monitor, like notebooks.....this has cooked 2 moniters of mine allready, and I have been pretty good about it and only done it once to a Samsung, and Im using it to type right now no harm done!

I would go with the Samsung. Their screens just seem to look better than other monitors with similar specs.

Well its settled then. A Samsung it is.

I'm gonna have to skip on the Trinitron, even if its a damm fine deal for the price. But the 6 months warranty just scares the heck outta me verses a 3 year warranty.

Though the Samsung monitor looks kinda ugly compared to the Viewsonic, since you guys say the screen its good, I might as well go for it.

Best part warranty location is only 7KM from me, so I can walk in to get a replacement.

I can understand... those are factory refurbs too. Was a bit worried about the decision to buy one at first, but it showed up 3 days later in perfect shape so I was happy. Still working like new after a year. I may get a couple more sometime when I got the extra cash.

My 2 cents: Viewsonic originally had the rep, but then word was they were producing cheaper stuff in China and that it wasn't as good as it had been. Well, I have an older model (E771) Viewsonic 17" and more recently got a Samsung 753DF (also 17") and the picture quality of the Viewsonic is superior IMHO. If possible, I would suggest going to a store where you can see the monitors you are considering side by side. You can look at all the paper stats you want in terms of resolution, refresh rates and dot pitch etc. but ultimately it's what it looks like in practice that really matters.
