View Full Version : Temp Warning Thingy
every motherboard i've had has a little thing where you can tell the motherboard to shut off the computer when it gets too hot.. (i have mine set to 60 or something just because..) so if all motherboards have it, why do some people burn out their cpus when they forget to plug in their fan or whatever?
not all mother boards have it. My a7a266 for one doesnt.. least i havnt seen it anywhere in the BIOS
ya but dont some people have nf7-s and stuff like me?
Well has anyone with a NF7-s burned out a CPU? There could be a lot of different reasons it could happen.
Maybe some turn it off while they are testing their machine to see what the temps are getting to with their new cooling system and don't catch that it is climbing to a dangerous teritory in time. Maybe they set it too high in the BIOS and the CPU burns out before reaching that point. maybe the BIOS heat sensor is not very accurate and although it was suppose to turn off at 60 it got to 65, burned the chip, but the motherboard only thought it was at 58.
Who knows?

forgetting to plug in a fan usually wont burn out the CPU. It will just get hot and crash. What kills CPUs is not having the heatsink mounted correctly, so its not making contact. Atleast thats the way it used to happen. I know my board / cpu has protection against this sort of thing (i "tested" it once).
