I am tired of having windows ME on my old dell and since it is still a pretty fast comp (P4 2gHz, 512ram, G4 Ti4400, 100gig HDD) I want to wipe its drive and start fresh with windows XP pro. The only mobo's I have ever used are the nforce 2's (which have the unified driver things). I was wondering where and what driver I should download for my Dell's mainboard. Would this work?

Thanks!!
You can download the drivers from Dell's site. There should be a sticker on the side or back with your Service Tag #. Go to Support on their site and you can enter this # and all the drivers for your computer will come up and you can download them.

Hmm...well figures. They didnt even have any chipset driver downloads for our model and besides I doubt it would be the latest and greatest driver considering the driver they had listed for mt Ti4400 was an old 38. Det (LOL).
Anyway. I would rather download the chipset drivers from a place where I know I am getting the latest stuff (guru3d.com). So that leads me back to my original question.
Thanks for your help tho Bobby. : /
Do you know what chipset your dell is using? I figured you'd get the video drivers from nVidia but the chipset drivers on Dell's site is a good place to start. Without knowing what chipset is on your motherboard, we can't tell you much more than going to Dell's site. You can download the latest drivers from Intel if you know the chipset.

Its the 850 chipset...but I thought that the Intel chipset drivers worked like Nvidia or ATI drivers where all you had to do was download one general driver and it covered most of there chipsets. But again I would rather not download drivers from Dell because they have really out of date stuff (as demostrated by the video card driver).
Chipset drivers hardly change compared to video drivers (which come out every week) That's the main reason why you think Dell has outdated drivers. While this is true for their video drivers, their chipset drivers should be up to date. You can double check on Intel's site but for Dell systems, you should stick to their drivers as much as possible (not including thier video drivers).

No Life,
Go to Intel.com and download the chipset drivers for your motherboard as well as the Intel Application Accelerator. That's really all you need. Windows XP will install basic drivers for your chipset and IDE controller but they are not the most recent.
