I recently contacted Compaq tech support for info on my motherboard and I couldn't get an official answer. I talked to four "specialists" on their chat support and each one gave me different info. I asked them what the maximum AMD Athlon XP cpu was that my motherboard could handle. One guy told me that the max was the AMD Athlon XP 2000+, another guy said the 2200+ and another guy said any AMD athlon cpu would work. One bitch even told me that my Presario 6015CA Series motherboard was not capable of upgrading from the current AMD Athlon XP 1800+ cpu. WTF! What kind of a company sells computers that can't be upgraded! I figured most people on this forum know more about computers then these Compaq retards, so if anyone can help me identify my mobo and tell me what cpus it can handle I'd really appreciate it.

Here's my specs using CPU-Z:

I know it says Compaq as the manufacturer of my board, but since when did Compaq make motherboards?

From looking at the chipset information, it looks like your running a nForce motherboard. Not much I can tell about who specifically manufactured your motherboard though. Running AIDA32 (http://www.webattack.com/get/aida32.shtml) might shed more details.

it is completely possible that the mobo has the bios locked and, while it can support ANY amd athlon cpu, it will only run as fast as the 1800. This is if the multies and fsb are locked. You must remember that the nfoce chipset automaticly unlocks the chip and therefore can run any chip at any speed regardless of the intended speed. The only uprade I can suggest is a new mobo and p/s since they are not compatible with anything other than the compac mobos and will destroy any other mobo. G/L

it's running a palomino so it's prolly not a nforce2. probably the original nforce chipset.

Well, the Celeron HP Pavillion that I use as a hardware firewall has jumper settings on the motherboard allowing to choose between different CPUs, and the Compaq may be the same. As for the motherboard itself, I think it might be an ASUS, but that's just a wild guess.

You could try Compaq online support, (http://h18000.www1.hp.com/athome/support/) but judging by some of the responses to questions that I have seen on there, I doubt you'll get much help.
