Hiya I recently put together a new computer with the following specs:
Athlon 3000(333fsb)
Asus A7n8x (revision 2.0 with support for 200fsb)
1gig Corsair XMS 3200 Matched Pair
Geforce FX 5900 Ultra 256mb
Windows XP, DX9
I just realized (after purchasing the 333fsb version) that running the system asynchronously is costing me quite a bit of performance. I recently upped the FSB to 200mhz and dropped the Multiplier to 11 and saw about 10%-15% improvement on my system... The question I have is it safe to run the chip at 400fsb as long as I ramp back the multiplier? As long as I keep the chip well coooled do I have to worry about anything? When I upped the FSB the temp went through the roof (using retail cooler), so I was planning on just upgrading my HSF (possibly a SLK800) and running the the system sync'd at 400mhz memory and 400mhz FSB to eke out that 10-15%.... Any input at all is appreciated!!!
