ok, i just had my first little adventure into overclocking. changed my FSB from 100 to 105 on my P4 1.9 (100*19). I ran prime95 and watched as my temp just kept going up. it got through about 4 tests and got to 51* and i shut down the program. will the temp just keep going higher and higher while the CPU is under load, or is there eventually a number that it stops at? Also how do i know how hot is too hot? when something hangs or crashes?

Basically yes. Prime95 isnt called one of the best burn in programs for nothing. ;) What is your cooling like? The number will eventually stop. Better cooling=better temps. Good job on the overclock btw. :)

ok, i let prime95 run longer on a 109mHz FSB and the temp leveled out at 52* for a long time. i have the intel heatsink/fan that came with the processor, and i have a big antec case with two exhaust fans in the back. no intake fans. when people have temperatures in their sigs or something that are at idle and under load, would the load be during something like prime95, or something less intense?

also, right now im setting the FSB by motherboard jumpers. unfortunately the manual only has settings for selected speeds. the next one above 109 is 133. should i try that jump and see if it works or use jumperfree mode and change it from the bios to get smaller increments?

also, listed in the manual it says what im running now is 109MHz CPU, 72MHz AGP, 36MHz PCI, but the next jump is 133MHz CPU, 66MHz AGP, 33MHz PCI. how come the AGP and PCI speeds get lower? does the switch setting change the dividers for them?

ok . . . first of all you do need to do some reading up. . . get a lil familiar with what you are doing. . . ok now. . 100 FSB is a standard just as 133mHz is too. . .when you overclock to a non-standard FSB(i.e. 109) you are ALSO over clocking all other devices on that system. When you get to 133 a 'divider' is enabled to allow your AGP and PCI to run at 66/33 respectively. those ARE the normal operating FSB's for the AGP and PCI. at 109 you had them overclocked. your board allows you to use another divider once you get to 133. at that point you are overclocking the chip only NOT the PCI/APG bus. . . the newer P4 board allow you to only overclock the FSB to the chip and mem and let you separate the rest of the components. . (i.e. the AGP and PCI slots) Hope this helps a lil
