Fixing the Cpu Overheating Problem(I wanna overclock this ****!)
I'll just lay it out:

Case: Xaser III black
PSU: Dual fan 420W TURBOLINK
CPU: Amd athalon xp 2600+
Mobo: ASUS A7N8X DELUXE
Graphics Card: AGP 4x Geforce 2 Ultra Pro 64
Memory: Corsair XMS 512
Sound: Onboard
Lan: Onboard
HD: Western Digital 7200rpm Special Edition
Bios version: 1005
CPU Fan: Volcano 9
Case fans: 6 or 7 standard case fans

Ok, so its underclocked now. I know that it shouldn't be..but for some reason it overheats when i increase the chip frequency. I have tried everything and the chip shouldn't be getting so hot especially with that loud as **** volcano 9 on it. I blue screen and sometimes it will lock up when i get it up to the full 2.08ghz that the chip allows. I disabled 8x agp cause I didn't need it, but as far as tweaking anything else in bios i haven't done anything. Please help, i would like to get this thing up and past the 2.1 ghz mark if I could...or at least back to where it should be. Thanks

it would help if you tell everyone the temps your getting.

wow, that is bad. Are you sure there is enough thermal compound, or the HSF is clipped in right? Does the Heatsink feel extremely hot? Case ventilation should not be an issue since the Xaser III comes loaded with Smart II fans. The Bios, by small chance could be reporting bad temps, but that is unlikely. Are you usng the default frequency of 1.65v? Tell us more about the system.

Whoa, i highly suggest you take off that volcano 9 and reapply thermal interface material (TIM). Get some ceramique (http://www.svc.com/chidethcobya.html) or nanotherm pcm+ (http://www.frozencpu.com/cgi-bin/frozencpu/thr-15.html) to help with your temp problem. I'm almost too sure that your using the paste that came with your hsf. Stick to default vcore for now (1.65v) because a volcano 9 shouldn't have an incredibly hard time to cool that off. It is rated up to 3400+.

Another note, check to see if the fan is on backwards. It is best to blow than to suck :D ... air i mean

My friend had the same problem but with a different CPU. Do you at all remember you cpu being under 50*c? How long have you had your cpu? maybe you can get a replacement if your warranty is not up yet.

Break it down and reapply your TIM with a very thin and even layer on both contacting surfaces.
