I'd like to be able to see and hear my little boy who lives in PA while I live in SC. I have yet to buy a webcam for his computer because I'm still trying to figure out how to get everything to work with my computer.
I have a Sony DV camcorder and a firewire card that came with my Video Editing software. I've pretty much learned that Netmeeting doesn't like to work with Firewire cards because of a driver thing. MSN Messenger also doesn't work with firewire cards either because they can't detect the camera. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas.
I've downloaded a program from www.trackercam.com that does work with my firewire card. It can also be used in conjunction with Netmeeting. I believe it can also be used by itself for video conference but I haven't exactly figured out how yet. If anyone has any experience with this software then perhaps you could give me a little tutorial.
All I'm looking for really is a free way to just allow my son to see and hear me and vice versa. I don't want anyone else to have access to the image nor am I looking for a service that puts my name all over the internet to allow others to send me messages looking for a good time. I'd like to be able to either send a message to my son telling him to to turn on the camera or perhaps just have it setup so that it's always on and connected so I can see him whenever I feel like it.
Basically I'm new to all this stuff so any help would be appreciated.
