many people have had good experiences with the benq fp767...supposedly it's a really good monitor (i was actually going to get it from newegg but they were out of stock for a few weeks so i ended up getting something else)

Albatron HAS DVI included and is better then benQ so thats why I'm confused can you clarify from this two which one is a clear winner, and also Samsung is it better then this two?
does the salesman work on commision? I have the benq its great and i think many other forum members including maxvla and cisco kid would agree with me. Samsung makes a great product with out a doubt, but the cost is quite high. The only albatron i looked at had a great design but the response time was 25ms so ghosting would be a problem.

NEC 1760 at newegg. 400 bucks. Great monitor. 16 ms response time. I haven't seen any ghosting in games.

I am also looking for a 17" LCD. I'd kinda like a DVI connector, and the Albatron looks good. How is the Benq better?
I don't know the specs on the albatron but the big thing with the benq is 16ms response time 500:1 contrast ratio and wide viewing angle. also 250 cmd bightness. The only negative for the benq is the lack of a dvi input. The response time is the most crucial item if you plan on gaming or watching dvd's. response time is the time it takes the monitor to stop displaing one image and display another, crucial for fluid movement in movies or games. Its particularly a problem for monitors with response times greater than 25ms. If you don't plan on any fps games or dvd movies than it probably wouldn't matter all that much.

It says "* Response Time(Tr / Tf) : 15 / 10 ms" on their site. What does that really mean?

Never mind. I read the sticky. 10+15 = 25ms.

Why do you need a DVI connection?
A dvi connection is digital and hence the dvi connection is the best choice for a flat panel. on the benq you have to either connect to the normal vga output on your vid card or use the dvi out put and convert it to analog which the monitor turns back into digital. an easier way to explain it is this from the dvi out on a vid card w/ a dvi input monitor there is no signal loss because both connections are digital. however if you use a flat panel on a vga connection the signal goes from analog into the monitor and then is translated into digital.

from what i hear the difference between the dvi and vga inputs isnt that great, unless you're a graphics artist or something to that extent, in which case you should probably be using a crt monitor (for better color reproduction)

LCD is suppose to have better color reproduction not CRT.
If you have a Sam's club go there, they have the NEC 17" LCD with 16ms response time for 399.99

Actually response time is not very crucial when watching DVDs
Movies are typically 24FPS - If you have a 25ms LCD that's 40FPS (1000/25=40) ...enough for movies but not quite so for games.

For the price, the BenQ is great. It's only 365 shipped, and it's a great monitor. Very nice looking, great display, no ghosting. DVI doesn't make a whole lot of difference, so considering the price, the BenQ is the best value.

look at the scores on the hitachi (it has the same panel, and I would assume backlight too since all of these AU Optronics screens that I have seen reviewed boast the same uniformity due to the backlight) to see how the benq would handle differently with dvi or vga. On the second link check out the comment on the max payne section. And remember blurring is not the same thing as streaking or ghosting. Also, I haven't seen the albatron you are talking about, but I'd suggest that you trust your own eyes and not any specs that a manufacturer lists. All of them are known to measure an lcd's stats differently.

I do. I've done a side-by-side comparison of the Hyundai Q17 (analog) and the Samsung 172T. Ghosting in the 172T is quite apparent (but not so much to the extent that its distracting) when you compare the two. take away the Q17, and I have a hard time distinguishing the ghosting on the 172T again. My conclusion:
Q17 => Better for games
172T => Better for graphics work.

I know you didn't mention this one, but Dell is currenlty having a sale on a 18" LCD for $449. It is pretty nice. I have seen several of them at work.
