LCD monitors

I'm in the market for a new LCD and wouls like to know what the best are, of each size
17 in
18 in
19 in

I need some help on this matter guys

Im not sure what the best type for each size would be, but LCDs are usually 2" larger then their listed size. This might make you consider why they cost so much at their size.

I know you didnt ask about the 15" but Ive been doing some research cause Im about to buy one, and the Samsung SyncMaster 152T is the best 15 you can get. Price/Performance.

I run 2 (on multy display) NEC MultySinc LCD 1760 D I have tryed other name brands but I have been an NEC man for years and they haven't let me down yet.

in general samsung and NEC/Mitsubishi are the best names. there's other people that make them like BenQ that are very nice as well. about being 2" larger. maybe if they have bezel speakers. LCD's are measured by their viewable size like laptops. bezel usually isn't included in the measurement like CRT monitors.

I have my eyes set on the 19" Dell 1900FP, The Library at my school has a huge computer lab with them and everytime I leave the lab I'm tempted to take one back with me :eek: heres a link to the DELL 1900FP LCD Monitor (http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=bsd&cs=04&sku=320-0249)

just have to wait for the price to go down about another $150 and then I'm buying it, also check EBAY prices tend to be a lot cheaper than those on Dell's website.

Samsung, NEC/Mitsubish, and Sony monitors are some of the best, CRT or LCD....they are really good brands.

LCD's aren't actually larger than their measurements.

A 17 inch CRT might have a 15 inch viewable screen.

They measure LCD's by their viewable screen...so a 17" LCD actually IS a 17 inch LCD.

Why they measure CRT computer monitors like this...I don't know.






Oh...and make sure your LCD's native resolution is the one you will be most using. Because LCDs look crappy on anything except their native resolution. Most 17"+ LCDs have 1280 res...and that is a nice resolution :)

The Hitachi CML174...16ms response time...I personally would not buy a LCD without atleast that...:eek:

I was checking out some monitors, but couldn't find "response time" in their specs. Does it go by a different name or am I just missing it, I don't know much about monitors, so if you could let me know.

Well one of the big problems is the is no real "standard" that the manufacturers use...Kind of like claimed watts on audio equipment...some use peak power, other RMS, high current you name it they have a name for it...:rolleyes:
