I use 75 hz, since there is not much difference between that, and 85 hz on my monitor.

85 Hz. Anything below 70 or so hurts my eyes, but only after I started using 85 all the time. I guess I just didn't notice it before.

I can't post my speed :D
It's 60Hz (..eyes scream in pain..), and I want to kill Gateway for shipping such a horrible montor with the system! A max of 1024x768@60Hz should be a crime!
Notice it's less than 60, or greater than/equal to 61. No choice for 60 itself :D

well, by unckeing the box, hide modes this moniter cannot display, i got it up to 100hz!!!! but my eyes cant focus on it so im putting it back down to 85hz.
typical of the o/c er squeezes every bit of performance out of all hardware.

I'm sort of a "Large Print" kinda guy.
I like to keep the DPI at the default of 96 because I have found several windows in XP that will not resize correctly with an increase in font size... thank you microsoft.

My dell moniter wth the rinitron thing is great. my gateway EV700 on the other hand................
It has extreme trouble showing text at anything above 1024X768. its highest refresh is 60hz at anything above 1024X768. and it when i turn it on, it goes

That the monitor would refresh your screen faster than your eyes can refresh the image you are looking at to your brain. This is also what causes the headaches if you have it too low.

The human eye cant see much more than 60hz, above that and the eye cant adjust fast enough and combines the pulses to make them appear as constant. If you can see this, you have some very good vision, I wish I sould have such bragging rights on my vision. I run 74, why go too much higher? Bragging Rights I guess

85hz@1280x768 is the max i can go with out the havin to goto 60hz @ a higher res, and im not havin that.
On a 17" Samsung sycnmaster 763mb. Gettin a 19" that can go to 1600x1200 200 refresh rate max(dunno if thats @ that refresh rate) this friday.
Peeps posting just your hz doesnt really say much unless you put down your screen resolution.
Very informative to see how good your monitor is if you put the resolution with the refresh rate and even monitor size.

Besides screen resoloution and hz , subjective info is good too .For example my CTX monitor can handle higher hz than my LG monitor but at my preferred resoloution of 1280 x 960 text in some places on the CTX looks blurry . So 1152 x 864 is what i chose on the CTX . The LG looks good at 1600 x 1200 as well but icons etc are just too small .

Little late to the post, but mine is as follows
Dell P1110 21 Inch monitor
1280x1024@100HZ
Anything less then 85Hertz looks horrible to me. Of course anything under 60Hertz will in fact make your eye sight worse if you spend any lenghty time in front of your computer. Number one sign is headaches
LG ez T910BU 19" just bought it:D
1280x1024@85
85 for all resolutions except 75hz @ 1600x1200..
I always try to use 85Hz and above ..
Anything above that doesn't really seem to make a difference with my eyes :attn:

I'm not sure. My GFX card says it's putting out 85, but my monitor says it's only displaying 75. My monitor used to say 85, but now it doens't. I'm not sure anymore.

My LG flatron F900P has 85 hz for 1024x768 , 1280x1024 or 1600x1200 resolutions. Definitely makes difference after u get used to it and set it to lower refresh rates.

I'm at 106hz, the fastest that this monitor could do at 800x600. But give it a break, its from a P1 afterall. Gotta love Zenith. :)

Secondary: NEC MultiSync 75 (17") on 3dfx Voodoo4 4500 32MB SDR PCI @ 1024x768x32bit @ 120Hz
My desktop is expanded to my seconday monitor :) works like a charm ;)
The Phillips will do 85Hz @ max res of 1920x1440x32bit, and the NEC will do 120Hz @ max res of 2048x1536x32bit. not to shabby for old cards/ monitors:)

I use 75 hertz. For some reason when I try to set it to 80+, it will get this weird distortion on the edges of the screen.

yeah, but with a thread like this it kinda looses it's validity. I mean 3 years ago most ppl were probably using CRT's still vs LCD's ...but now LCD's have gotten way better for gaming and stuff so many/most are now using them.

yeah, that's one of only a handful of CRT's I'd stick with if I owned it.
But some day you might get tired of lugging around a 93lb CRT :)

08-25-06, 04:09 PM
well, that's the case on CRT's....on LCD's the normal refresh rate is 60Hz and that is just fine to the eyes. But I find on a CRT that anything lower than 75 is unbearable and makes my head/eyes hurt and can even make me sick to my stomach. But even 75 is the bottom of the threshold for me, I prefer 85hz or more (as i think most ppl do)
But 60Hz on any LCD is just fine, at least all that I've ever talked to.
My VA902b can do 75Hz at 1280 x 1024, I'm fairly sure.
