REAL odd.....

Just installed 4 new drives on my ATA RAID card.....and my monitor is REALLY screwy. (of course that includes a complete format)

outside edges are ......as best I can describe them.....wobbly. Literally zig-zagged or wavy. I've played with the monitor features but can't seem to get the screen perfectly straight. Best I've settled for so far is most of the edge is straight till about 80% of the way up.....the top 20% takes a pretty sharp curve indward. This happened after I changed the refresh and resolution back to what I had them, before the format.

No other hardware has changed......same drivers for everything (newest ones of course) and I've tried the monitor on another machine...it works perfectly on that machine.

Any guesses?

Possibly RF interference coming from the Raid card to the Vid card. My only guess would be to find a way to see what the screen looks like without the raid card, but still in windows....


Try and change drivers again, and find a different refresh rate.

Other than that, I haven't a clue.

It could have nothing to do with your hardware changes; it could just be dying.

if that were the case, it wouldn't work on another machine.

The distance from the rig or drivers have not changed.....the entire setup is exactly the same as before the format.

I apologize, I didn't see that you said you've tried it on another machine. But, your video card could be screwed, have you tried it on another machine? Tried unplugging the drives and booting off of something else? Vid card not getting enough power because of the extra load on the PSU?

Try plugging the monitor on a different outlet further away.

I say get a very long extention cord (just as a test) and see if its not that power plug that is overcloaded. You never know how much power an extra 4 hard drives could have on your current power strip or even area of your fusebox/breaker.

I say plug in your monitor to that extention cord (long orange ones) and plug it into somewhere far away, in another room maybe on the opposite side of the house. Then turn it on and see if it wobbles.

If I had to make a guess, I would say its power related. If it's not power related, my suggestion is to take 5 thick sheets of lead and encase them around your monitor :D. You probably wont get any wobblies after that mod.

PS: what kind of monitor is this?
