LCD Monitor: Good Deal?

Firstly, I know very little about LCDs. If anyone has any good links or anything that will educate me, that would be most appreciated.

What do you think of the monitor linked above? Mainly I'm wondering if its made by a good company and if the price is fair. If anyone has used an LCD by Samsung, opinions would be useful.

The main reason I'm consider this one is that I'm looking to get a little more screen real estate than what my current 17" CRT provides. However, my desk is quite small, and I'm unsure if a 19" or larger CRT would fit. If we were to assume that it would fit, how much would a good 19" CRT cost? How would its image quality, etc, compare to that of an LCD?

I do a considerable amount of gaming with my computer. Is a 25 ms response time sufficient?

I would say it's a nice monitor, at a nice price. I currently use a Dell 1800FP. It has and 18.1 inch viewable screen, this is the same as your average 19 inch CRT. It has a native resolution of 1280*1024, and a response time of 30 ms (according to Dell, but a lot of us 1800FP users think it is closer to 25 ms). I notice absolutely no ghosting, or streaking while playing games and watching DVD's. The 1800FP is actually a rebadged LG LB800H. I would keep an eye on these, because Dell habitually has them on sale (I got mine for 479, the week after it was on sale for 390). I would recommend this monitor to anyone. Hope this helps. Also, the Dell 1900FP is just a rebadged Samsung 191T.

Only if you don't play First Person shooters. FOr those you'll want 18ms response time or lower

I don't necessarily agree with you. I play MOH:AA, SOF2, Ut2k3, etc... on my 1800FP, and notice no streaking while moving at high rates of speed. Yes, the lower the responce time is, the nicer the picture will be, but 25 ms should be quite sufficient. AFAIK, there are only a handful of LCD's with responce times under 18 ms. I think the most famous of them is the 16 ms NEC 17 inch. But, I think that 25 ms is sufficient.

I wanna know what week it was that Dell had the 18 inchers on sale for under 400. I currently have a View Sonic VG151 with dual inputs. I actually got it off of Dell's online store for 370 close to 2 years ago. They sometimes have some really good deals.

I think it was close to three or four weeks ago. Just keep an eye on Home & Home office, and Small Business. They usually put the 1800FP on sale in there for really cheap.

I have to agree with this. I have a 25ms LCD monitor, and I play UT2K3. It's not bad (it's definately playable), by you just know that it would look so much better on a CRT. I find that with my 25ms LCD monitor, whenever you move the camera a game, evrything in the distance looks blurry, but when you bring the camera to a hault, everything becomes clear again. And no, it's not because my graphics card is slow, since I usually average around 110 FPS in UT2K3. I'd say definately go with a 18ms or less LCD.

I've decided to hold off on the LCD for now though. But I will try to look for ~18ms response time when I do go looking for an LCD. Thanks again.

Good idea. There's supposed to be a new LCD standard comming out soon that's a lot faster than the current one. It should be out later this year. Right now, however, there are 16 ms LCD monitors out, and the people who are using them to play games are saying that they can't notice any slowdown/blurring/ghosting while using them, so if you're picking one up, you might want to see if you can find one of these 16 ms ones. Just a thought. :)
