My monitor screams when I turn it on

Ok, now that the title has caught your attention, this started happening to my Viewsonic G90f when I got a replacement 9700. Every time I degauss or turn the monitor on when the computer is booted, it emits a very loud, very long beeping noise. I'm not using any setting the monitor is designed for, so I don't think it could be that. Help my ears?

maybee you two could figure this out, you both have viewsonics and similar probelms.

Hm, must have posted when I was typing :p I get no problems turning it off though. A search shows some similar problems, but I didn't see any solutions, and the viewsonic support page is hardly that.

There is a small rat inside that gets shocked every time you turn it on.

Keep in mind this is the only logical explination.

found this after googling the problem:

"According to information found on the net, the cause of the high-pitched noise is due to the vibration of the coils on the CTR-tube with a frequency of approx. 10 kHz. This seems a plausible explanation for the high-pitched noise that I hear. Hummm ... don't know what to do about it though, but at least it's an explanation as to the source of the noise."

also this:

"If it is your flyback transformer - you will notice a deterioration over time and start to see the raster more clearly - if that's the case - at least you can tell the repair man what the problem is and let him know that you aren't about to be ripped off."

I dropped a tv once and it makes this high pitched screach to this day but only for about 40seconds when you are turning it on.

My monitor makes this sound. Try repositioning the monitor, should make the sound go away for a little awhile.

I attempted to RMA my monitor, they told me it was a common noise, if I started to notice picture degradation then call them back.

We have one monitor at work that squeels until its warmed up.

As far as I can tell we are talk about the highvoltage part in a monitor/tv that makes the screaming noice.
Don't know how to fix it though :(

Hmm, it's probably not worth opening up and digging through the EMI shielding, but if you could find the source of the vibrations, you could try to isolate them / stop them from vibrating. -- Paul
